Family Counseling

Hi ladies,

I am a lurker and a rare poster here.

If you have ever been to family counseling, how did you select the counselor? I have insurance that covers it, to a point. Should I go to the insurance suggested one to start?

Re: Family Counseling

  • That's a good place to start. If you don't like that counselor, you can always pick a different one.
  • I think that you need to figure out WHY you want/need the family counseling... Different counselors have different approaches.  Are you going to difficulties, are you going to avoid these things, or are you going to just be an all around healthier more open family?

  • Sorry - I clicked too fast... Also, if you don't like your options you can always look into your church/house of faith.

  • My company pays for counseling "to a point" too. I've used their suggested counselors.  When looking for SD, I even made some specific requests. They knew a littel bit about some of their "specialties" that helped me seelct what I thought we would be best.

Good luck. I hope it goes well for you and your family.

    THIS

There are family counselors who specialize in step families and some who dont have a clue about it. Also if you are a person of faith, there are Christian counselors who will counsel with a biblical perspective. And if your dealing with a specific issue in the family, there are counselors for that as well, like addiction specialist etc......
