Toddlers: 24 Months+

If you ERF, when did you turn their carseats FF?

My girls are 22 mo and still meet the height/weight limits for their carseats to be RF. I was thinking that I'd keep them RF until 2 years, but perhaps it's best to just keep going until they exceed the limits?

Just wondering what others have done who ERF.

We turned DS around just after he turned 2.

  • Sam is nearly 2.5 and we still rear face in both cars.  He has the Marathon, and I can see that he can be rear facing a long time still, unless he has a huge growth spurt.  We are only on the second of the three rear facing shoulder strap heights, and he has tons of room above his head.

  • We will RF until she reaches the maximum requirements of her seat.
  • We don't plan on turning her anytime soon. We have a Marathon, and DD is still on the lowest slots.

I am still baffled by how you are still rear-facing in Roundabouts. DD is not that tall and has outgrown hers.

  • We plan to RF until DD outgrows the weight limit, unless she starts causing trouble when she has the new baby next to her.

eta: She probably has about 10 lbs. to go before she reaches the 33 lb. limit, so we have a ways to go.

  • DS turned 2 on October 11th and we're keeping him rear facing for another few months- he's close to the weight limit of 35 pounds but not there yet.
3 IUI's and 2 IVF's later- Brady arrived. Born at 36 weeks after PUPPS and pre-e/HELLP.

  • DS #1 is still RF but he's getting close to the weight limit, I think he had another 3 pounds so when he hits the weight limit or his brother hits his bucket limit and has to move to a convertible because we can't do 2 RF convertibles in our car.
  • Well, their well child was yesterday and they are only 23 lbs 14 oz and 26 lbs 3 oz... and Charlotte, who is the taller one, at 35 inches (which is actually really tall, she is in the 75th to 90th percentile), has a butt to shoulder height of 13+ inches... and the Roundabouts rear face until a shoulder height of 15 inches. Alice is quite a bit shorter, so I didn't measure her shoulder height, but I'm going to soon just to check, but she is clearly shorter in the torso than Charlotte.

So, yeah, Roundabouts and my girls are a pretty good fit :)

  • We had to turn Caleb around a couple weeks ago.  He is over 35 pounds now which is the RF weight limit on his (and most/all?) carseats.  If he hadn't hit that, we for sure would have gone to 2 years but probably not much longer than that.  If they are happy though, I don't see why not keep them RF until they hit the limits.

  • They hate, loathe, and detest the car so I am trying not to give into the idea of FF and an Elmo DVD for long trips...
