Hints for PIO lumps?

Anyone have any good tips for helping to relieve/prevent the lumps from PIO?

The one from last night is just throbbing.. We already warm up the pio beforehand and I usually use a heating pad afterwards although not always. I should probably be more consistent with that. Lately I've been bruising pretty badly, too. I think the day before yesterday the nasty bruise was because DH injected it too fast but it doesn't really explain yesterday's.

Re: Hints for PIO lumps?

  • Mine were in cottonseed oil, so I don't know if that made it better or not, but our only "method" was to be really anal about rotating spots.  The nurse had drawn a circle on each cheek to indicate the area DH could hit. He would do 12 o'clock, 3, 6, 9, center, 2, 5, 7, 11, etc, rotating sides at the same time.  I think it helped to not hit very close to the same spots again for a long time.

  • I found that massaging the injection site pretty intensely after the injection really helped. After IVF#1 I had really bad itchy welts for nearly 3 months. It sucked! GL!

  • I use a heating pad consistently before and after injection and found it helps a lot.  My first PIO cycle, I had horrible welts and bruises (used a heated towel but was very inconsistent with use and duration).  my 2nd cycle, I bought a pad and use it for at least 10-15 minutes before and the same after...after, I massage and then basically sit on the pad...it really helped a lot.
