    i have had this fear that i will not be able to get pregnant natually. i could not figure out where this was coming from...then i remembered my old GYN saying that i would not be able to concieve naturally. I was 18 when she told me this.

    i went to a new place (just moved) and they looked at my charts (i have been paper charting for a while, and have been using FF for about 4 cycles now), and she told me that i was okay. irregular, but that i could conceive naturally. to just keep BDing and pray for the best. (now if another year goes by and still nothing...then she said we can do testing).

    have any of your docs past or present scared you or told you something that was just....well...unfounded and heartless....

    I had an old family doctor that swore up and down that I would get cancer one day too. (though I have no major unhealthy habits like smoking/drinking/etc)

    Wow I'm surprised that you're just now remembering this event that happened when you were 18.  Didn't you say that being 40 was like 20 years away...so being 18 wouldn't be that long ago?

     

    That being said, I'm always shocked by some of the harsh things that Doctor's say, sometimes without evidence to back it up...they clearly don't know the weight of their words.

    Yes, I had some medical issues as a child and bad experiences with many doctors.  It took me a long time to trust medical professionals again.

    i think that it was a little seed that was planted and i just didn't want to focus on it...it was almost 4 years ago and alot has happened in the time period. when DH started to ask me why i was so scared (i had a breakdown the other day that involved alot of silly tears), he wanted to know if a doctor had ever said that i would have issues. that would be the only reason to doubt myself in his opinion. then i remembered the GYN.

    So why wait another year? I don't understand why they would advise her to keep having sex and TTC on their own for another year?

    OP: Have they done any test? Personally I would not wait another year!

    we have been trying for 10 months, but i have only had 4 cycles. on cycle 5 now.

     I've only been trying for about 6 mos but am on the same cycle...I am already seeing an RE and trying to figure out what the problem could be. 

    I would recommend going to an RE and getting tests done....but then again, I'm not patient.

    You are really confusing me -- first you say that you "just remember" something that clearly upset you, then you say that you're worried you can't get pregnant but that you don't want to get tests done because "4-5 chances doesn't count as a lot"

    Make up your mind.  Do you want to get the ball rolling and figure this out...or not?  It's your call, but don't belly ache about it if you don't want to act on it.

    And also - 4 or 5 chances since January means you are having 50-60 day cycles.  Something ain't right there and probably ought to be investigated further.
