Another flu shot question

Brandon is getting his first dose of the seasonal vax on Monday.  He needs a second. 

Pedi's office is out (I'm not sure they ever got them as the 4-5 times I called they didn't have them) and will not be getting any.

Ideas on where to get the 2nd dose in early December????

And I've heard conflicting things on the flu shot and 2 doses.  Some people have told me some believe the 2nd dose isn't necessary and that the first one probably does do the job.  Someone educate me, please?

    But any ideas on where I'm going to find the 2nd dose?

    That might be a challenge as regular flu vaccine is becoming scarce because the manufacturers are not producing any right now so they can get the H1N1 vaccine distributed.  My pedi office had regular flu vaccine, and DD only needed one shot this year.  I don't know if they still have it now or not.

    I fear that the same issue will arise with H1N1 vaccine.  You wait in line somewhere to get your child the shot, hold your breath for 30 days and pray you can find a second dose.  In the mean time, you have a child that is not fully protected for 60 days (if you are lucky enough to find a second dose).  I just don't understand the thinking behind the way they are making and distributing these vaccines.

    I would call the pedi, and the health department in any nearby county when it is time to get the second dose.  Maybe someone will have it when you need it.  Unfortunately, it is going to be a wait and see.

    I don't anticipate being as big of a problem in December as it is now.  It's supply & demand, and right now, the manufacturers can't keep up.  I just tried to order a seasonal vaccine yesterday at work and the availability was listed as "day to day."  Evan if you can't get it then, it doesn't have to be exactly 28 days after the first, kwim?  As long as he gets the second one at some point, it will do it's job.  HTH!
