Success after IF

u/s=good news, sad news

First u/s today.... we saw two sacs, but one was empty. RE said it's a vanishing twin, but I thought that meant it was there and then went away!? The other sac had a healthy 7w baby with a beating heart!! RE said I need to come back in a week to keep an eye on the empty sac to make sure it goes away.... what if it doesn't? It seemed a lot larger than the sac with the baby in it. So I'm very happy but panicky nonetheless!

  • I am so sorry :( The same thing happened to DS's twin. Your body should resorb it (yes, I had never heard of resorbing before that). It will eventually go away. I am glad that you have a healthly little growing baby :) Congrats!!
It took over four years to be diagnosed with PCOS. We TTC #1 for 18 months, did 5 rounds of Clomid and finally moved onto IVF...which worked! Throughout our IF journey, we suffered 3 miscarriages. We conceived both DD and DS without treatment.

  • I'm happy to hear that your little one is doing well, but I'm so sorry for your loss.  With my pregnancy with DD, we lost a twin around 9 or 10 weeks.  It took awhile, but my body did reabsorb the tissue and I did not have any bleeding, cramping, or complications.

  • i too thought that the sac had to have something in it to be "vanishing"--we had a vanishing twin but also a third sac that never had anything in it.  anyway--they just kept a close eye to make sure that the baby was growing well bc the vanishing twin sac was there for a long time--until around 20 weeks i think.

i'm glad your baby is doing well--and sorry about the loss.

  • I'm so sorry to hear about the twin, but that's awesome that the rest of the appointment went so well!

  • CONGRATS on a healthy baby! I'm sorry about the vanishing twin. I also had a vanishing twin when pg with dd. I also found out at my 1st appt. It's strange I was expecting one or the other, h/bs or nothing. I was not ready for both, kind of a strange feeling. Again, congrats on your  healthy baby!

  • I'm so sorry about the vanished twin. I don't know what would happen if the sac doesn't disapear? But good luck with everything else, I hope you have a smooth remainder of your pregnancy.
  • I'm sorry about the twin, but very happy to hear about your healthy baby!
  • I'm sorry for the loss of one twin, but very very happy for you that you have a healthy baby!!
  • I'm really sorry for your lost twin.  I'm currently going through the same thing and I know it's a bittersweet feeling.  At my 1st U/S at 6 weeks there was a ges. and yolk sac and they warned us of the vanishing twin.  At my last appt. this week, I was 9 wks.  The sacs were there but much, much smaller.  They said it would continue to dissolve and I'd probably have little to no signs.

At the same time, I'm really happy for your healthy, growing baby and wish you nothing but the best.  Hugs!
