She gained...low weight update

Zoe gained at her last pedi appointment, almost half a pound in just under 2 weeks.  This is great news, though it is going to take a toll on me getting up in the middle of the night to feed her, if I have to then I have to.  However, she has been on a hunger strike the last 3 days so Lord help me I think we'll be hitting square one again soon.

It should NOT be this hard to feed my freaking child.  I am in counseling just dealing with this BS it is killing me.  Why won't she F*****G eat??  I am really at the end of my rope...or so I keep saying but then I hit a new end.

  • One of my girls has pretty solidly been in the 5-10 percentiles, but she is barely in the 5th percentile now. I haven't been through the gamut with her like you have, but it's VERY hard to get her to eat and a huge stress for me even with the minimal issues we have. Just wanted to say that I am sorry and I hope it improves.
  • Can I ask how much she weighs and how old  she is?  Does she seem happy and healthy to you?  My DD has always been in the less than 5th percentile for weight, but not height.  At 2 years old she is only 22 lbs.  The doctors stressed us all out by running all kinds of tests on her, making her drink Boost, etc.  when all along we knew there was nothing wrong.  We try not to make food an issue.  If she's hungry she will eat.

Sorry.  I just read your back story.  They also did the stool and bloodwork with my DD, but not hospitalization....that's rough.  I wish you luck, but still I say go with your instincts.  I was so fed up with doctors trying to find something "wrong" when DD looked healthy to me, just thinner than other kids, and was so happy.  My DD was and still is very active.  She does not watch any TV and sit on a couch.  We do not have her stuck in a car seat for daily trips to the mall, or stick her in a stroller all day feeding her snacks.  Also keep in mind that weight charts are sometime using national not worldwide samples which also makes a difference.

  • it sounds like the tests are causing the problems.  maybe the dr is just running TOO MANY tests and your daughter is  not happy about it.

have they tried to just let you go home and live for a while to see if she gaines?  keep feeding her the PB, avacado, etc..  then go back?

Does she has loose stool, or is she grey in color? does she look healthy?  is she developing on track?

I ask that because you are describing my son to the T with weight issues.  but my son had odd diarhea- for 8+ months before we figured out the problem.  he was in the 90+ percentile, then in the 20th in 2 months.  it was scary, but he STOPPED developing and meeting his milestones.  he had a greyish tone to his face.  he looked sick, that was why I kept telling the dr he was sick!!

eventually he caught pneumonia-  problem because his immunse system was SOO compromised due to the diarhea.  He was put on antibiotics, and all of a sudden his diarhea went away and he started gaining, very quickly.  he was diagnosed with an over growth of bacteria in his intestines.  it flares up when he gets a cold, but a quick 14 course of antibiotic fixes it.

good luck!!  i know the stress, I have been there.  I have been to the pedi and GI dr 4-5 times a week to get him weighed, then once a week for maintanence.  all just to put him on the scale and hear, well he lost onother 8 ozs, so what is next..  :(
