Baby Names

What do you think of this name...?

Koen(Ko-en) Denali(Den-ah-lee) Eades(Reads minus the R)

Note that Eades is our last name. LOL It's mostly the middle name I want you to look at. Koen Eades is his name without a second thought about it.

Koen is it's own name, not just a form of Cohen. It's Dutch meaning Bold. Not just hebrew or something like that meaning Priest. Oh, and I do realize that people could misprounce his name and I don't care about that. My name is Kelisa and I've corrected people all my life, but I absolutely love my name. If correction was what I was worried about DH and I would crank out something generic that would leave a bland taste in your mouth.

And yes.. I realize there is a SVU called the Denali and also some twilight reference. But there is also an amazing beautiful national park. And DH Loves denali(this name is native american origin) because it reminds him of his native american background(he is 1/6 NA)

And no. I am not following some Hollywood trend.

So now that I've gotten all that out of the way, what do you all think? :D

Edit: The middle name we have currently is Damir(Da-meer), which is slavic. :D

Re: What do you think of this name...?

  • NMS but I don't mind it for someone else's kid.

  • I know several dogs named Denali.  It's a cute name, but I hadn't thought of it for a kid.  Koen is NMS, but I've seen it more than once on here.

  • Like pp, Denali is cute, but (like you stated) it makes me think of the GMC Yukon Denali Suv....maybe it's just me, but NMS. I like Koen, but personally prefer the spelling Cohen...but again, that's just me. Good luck to you!!

*edit* okay, so I'm a little sleepy this morning and didn't read your explanation of the name, Koen, (normally I am not that dense!) I retract my last statement, and think Koen is a perfectly good name! LOL, sorry for the brain fart.

  • OK, clearly your mind is made up. Not sure why you are asking....but I wouldn't have known that about Koen so I would think it was a misspelling of Cohen. Now that I know it's not, I like it better, rightly or wrongly

Denali is cute for a MN, and I think of the national park first since that's been around a lot longer than twilight or the car.

  • I like Denali, and I think of he park first as well

    Good name choices

  • I strongly dislike it, but if your mind is made up, what does my opinion matter?

And, just to be thorough...not all names that need no explaination or correction are "bland".

    This.

And, yes, Koen is a traditional and fairly common name in the Netherlands...but, fyi, in Dutch, Koen is pronounced: "koon" (and not "co-en").

Probably won't affect things name-wise for you, especially in this country, but thought it worth sharing.

    I didn't know that. Interesting. :D

As for having the name set, most of you noticed my badges and had to have seen the very first one, DH and I also have the middle name Damir(which is slavic) picked out. So I was just seeing what people thought about Denali, I forgot to mention Damir in the original post. LOL It was late.

  • I personally hate the spelling you chose. Denali is a SUV or a name for a pitbull.

And why don?t you add just one more badge to your siggy for shits and giggles.

There are more ways to spell Denali?

So what if it's an SUV? My name is a small compact car in Malaysia... so what's your point?

  • Why are you asking what anyone thinks if you already have all these qualifiers that tell us it doesn't matter what we say? You don't make sense.

Also, from what I'm gathering from your posts, you're choosing Dutch, Native American and Slavic names and mushing them all together? You said your DH is part Native American, did you just pick the other origins just for fun? Its a strange hodge podge, the nicest thing I can say is NMS.

I was, more or less, just asking for if it sounds good together or flows well together, not what the name reminded people off, because a lot of the women that sit on this board are snippy/rude and to be honest, a bit b!tchy. so I guess I should have titled the post, "Does this flow well...?" or something along those lines, sorry, it was late at night and I was tired... Confused

I have European roots, my mother is British and that side of the family spans roots all over Europe. Now as for the Slavic, when my husbands ancestors on his moms side came over, their original name and origin was Slavic(The last name was Erhavoic or something along those lines, that might just be the phonetic pronunciation of it, I have troubles with spelling, so pardon me).

But there, just so you know now. :)

  • I just wanted to say that I have a good friend in the Netherlands named Koen.  But in the Dutch language it is pronounced "Koon".  When he comes to the US people tend to say "Koh-en" like the way you plan to pronounce it.

Not sure if you care, or maybe you already know this, but...if you're giving a dutch name you may want to pronounce it the dutch way.
