NBR: Recommend a Washer/dryer

My husband and I need to buy a washer and dryer but we have no idea what kind is the best.   So I thought I would see if anyone knows any good ones here!  TIA

Re: NBR: Recommend a Washer/dryer

  • We just bought a samsung frontloader set and LOOOVE it!!!!  It's so quiet and efficient! It got some of the highest ratings out there, too. I think they're $899 each at Lowes, but we ended up paying MUCH less than that due to a great sale and rebates :)

  • We are Consumer Reports junkies.  I think we're going with the GE, because they were highly rated, but not as expensive.

We're ordering ours tomorrow - yippee, no more stinky, rust stained wash

  • I have Samsung frontloaders that Im a little too obsessed with.  They seriously hold so much stuff and the dryer uses almost NO gas (we noticed a huge drop in our gas bill when we got ours)

  • I have the LG steamwash front loading set. I love them. They're super high capacity, energy efficient, and all the weight sensors work great.

  • We have the Whirlpool Duet's (front loader) and I LOVE THEM!

They are huge and I can fit almost anything in them. Have had them 3 years now.

    siggy should be here!
  • I used to work at Home Depot in the appliance department.  From what I learned working there I would go with front loaders for various reasons. The first being that a front load washer uses almost 50% less water than a top loader saving you money on your water bills. Because there is no agitator like the top loaders have, they are easier and gentler on your clothes. So you won't find all tangled up clothes when you try to pull them out. They are also a lot more energy efficient as well.  Ifyou like top loaders, Maytag sells one that has no agitator in the middle and works just like a front loader.  I forgot what they were called... I think the Bravo?

As for a brand... I personally have the LG front load steam washers.  I love them. They clean my clothes sooo well, they have great options on them and so far they have been super efficient and I haven't had any problems with them.

  • LG!!!  We got a super deal on ours from Home Depot.  Front loaders $699 each and 10% off and then free delivery.  Look for their deals!!!

Just open up a new account and you can get 10% off anytime.  Then just pay it off right away and cut up the card if you don't plan on using it.

  • I have to tell you, I know front loaders are all the rage, but I have a top loader WITHOUT an agitator. It's the Whirlpool Cabrio washer and dryer. They are energy star, use tons less water and electricity than standard models, and the drum of the washing machine actually has a higher capacity than front loaders. Put it this way--I can wash my king sized comforter in my top loader and dry it in the dryer. Normal top loaders would never let you do this--you'd have to go to the laundromat. Anyways, just thought I'd throw that out there. I love mine and have had it for 2 1/2 years.  Best purchase ever.
