3rd Trimester

Where are my plus sized/curvy girls?

I'm a size 13/14. I'm 5'11" and was 195 pounds prior to the baby. I'm a big girl, but only slightly "overweight" (as far as BMI is concerned).

When I wear a skirt my thighs rub together and, by the end of the day, it's PAINFUL. I actually have two spots where they are rubbed raw from the skirt I wore on Wednesday.

I can't wear pantyhose most of the time because I live in Phoenix where it is hot, hot, HOT. How do you girls prevent this?

Re: Where are my plus sized/curvy girls?

  • Monistat makes a Chafing relief powder gel.  You put this all over your inner thighs and it really helps with the rubbing and its horrible effects!

  • shapewear underwear from motherhood maternity - they're little spandex shorts - I have the same problem and wore skirts/dresses very little throughout pregnancy
  • Baby powder.  Also, Monistat makes an anti-chaffing powder cream that is wonderful (it is clear but goes on a powdery consistency).  Keep it in your purse and apply when needed.  Moisture is the enemy, so keep things as dry as possible.
  • I think they make "shorts" out of slip material.  Remember slip peeps used to wear under their skirts??  :)  I know they used to make these for that purpose but not sure where you can get them.  But I would think they would be by pantyhose or slips.  Hope this helps Big Smile

    We totally think alike.....

  • I live in Phoenix too and latley it's been kinda chilly. I was a size 13 when I found out I was pregnant i'm 5'0 and was 140...I only wear jeans b'cuz of the stretchies on my calves....:(
  • Just wear a pair of spandex shorts. That's what I do.
  • I have the same problem even when I'm not pregnant.  I have found this amazing stuff called "body glide" that basically creates a barrier anywhere you apply it.  It works amazing!  I suggest this.

  • You ladies are amazing. I am going to try all of those suggestions. Thank you!
  • I trained and did a 1/2 marathon summer 08'. This is a problem for runners not only on the legs, but also bra straps and shoes (blisters).

The best thing I found is a product called "Body Glide". They sell it at running stores and places like REI. It is fantastic! I still use it all the time on my feet if I wear shoes that might cause a blister.  Had to wear new fancy shoes for a wedding last month and didn't get one blister even with swelling feet.

    siggy should be here!
  • Baby powder. Either that, or if it's not a tight, form fitting skirt (more A line), I'll wear a pair of skin tight shorts underneath.

Ditto.  DH discovered this (he's a coach) a couple of years ago and its a life saver.  I used it back when I was running.

  • I wear bike shorts or old, cut-off leggings under all my skirts, pregnant or not.

  • So this is not my board yet, but I have been lurking the past couple of days because I can't wait to come to 3rd Trimester!  You can also purchase Spanx (not sure about the spelling) they are like spandex shorts simply for this purpose.  Hope that helps!

With the Body Glide (never heard of it till now) if you use it with shoes that cause a blister does it make them slip off more?

  • Body Glide!!!  You can get it at Dicks/Sports Authority.  Runners/Triatheletes etc use it to keep legs and arms from rubbing.  You rub it on like deodorant.
