Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

What's going on with the Duggars?

I used to spend all of my time mocking them, like this:

Lately I've been watching reruns during DS's nap and they have grown on me.  I think Michelle and Jim Bob are so genuinely sweet to each other, and I really like them.  I still give a major side-eye to naming all of their kids J names and the girls having to wear ill-fitting clothes, but other than that....

Now I really hope her uterus doesn't fall out.

  • They are probably getting it on right now. :-) I am just wondering with that many kids how the heck you find time to get some sexy time. I am 28 weeks, have a 16 1/2 month old and am freaking exhausted. I would totally take sleep over sexy time. How the heck does she *feel* like doing it.

  • They have been growing on me too.  They have changed a lot since their show first aired.  The girls don't wear those prairie dresses anymore and I think some of the older ones are allowed to wear make up.

  • I've really never understood the big deal about making fun of them. They do seem genuinely in love. They raise respectful, polite, smart kids. They aren't in any debt, they aren't on government assistance, they are financially responsible. While I'd never consider having kids the way they do, I have nothing to complain about as far as the way they are doing things.

  • i like them.  i think they are genuinely great and non-crazy.  so what if they've made a few different choices than us?  they aren't a freak show like jon & kate.  they have made an honest living for themselves.

  • Me too. I've kind of always liked them. But I'll tell you, since DH has been away at school, I've had TLC on my tv pretty much 24 hours a day. I watched a Little Couple marathon the other day. Right now I'm watching Little People, Big World and I'm getting excited for Say Yes to the Dress. Somebody send help.
  • I really like them too. The only thing about the show that is weird to me is when Josh and Anna kiss. It looks so awkward and it makes me uncomfortable.
  • They do seem really genuine to me as well.  I think my MIL could of learned a lot from them, she had 8 kids and homeschooled.  She should of never had that many kids.  The Duggars seemed to have it more together.  I see nothing wrong with people have that many children as longs the can provide for the emotional and have their basic needs meet.
  • I used to judge them like crazy.  Now I love them.  Their choices aren't ones I would make, but Jim Bob and Michelle seem to have a wonderful marriage, and they are both so patient.
  • There was an episode on the other night Q&A  they addressed the J thing.  It wasn't intentional...they just did it for Josh , then the twins, then didn't want anyone to feel left out lol.

I like them too  but  man I wonder if they ever just flip the hell out!?!

  • Haha... I had the same revelation! I started watching the show mostly so I could gawk at their ridiculousness, and all the sudden I realized that I actually genuinely respect their parenting style (well, most of it).

They just seem like genuine, positive people who really love each other... and LIKE each other, which is sometimes even more important, I think. Jim-Bob's a little dopey sometimes, but Michelle seems like a good mom and the kids are sweet and funny. Other than Josh's new wife, who is so meek and awkward I can't handle it.

But there are a LOT worse families out there in the world... it's nice to see one that's uplifting once in a while. No more judging from me!

  • My parents live near the Duggars. I grew up in the same area.  I am glad to read this tread.  Sure, it is not a lifestyle I would choose, but from what I know they are genuine, nice, caring people in real life too.
  • Agreed. The more I watch the more I love them.

Completely agree.  :)  We should all be so lucky.

  • Add me to the fan club. Though I think it's so funny in the last episode..they did a charity 1 mile run/walk and because of the their rules about clothes, all of the boys were wearing JEANS and the girls all had ankle length skirts on.

Are they really not allowed to wear like track/sweat pants?? That little bit just seemed weird to me. Otherwise, I love them!

    proud mommy!
  • I'm on board with the Duggars too. I used to mock them as well for all the same reasons mentioned, but she is very sweet and their show is just so darn appealing. Oh well!

In their Question/Answer episode, one of the younger girls said that they were allowed to wear pants instead of skirts if they wanted to. I think they just don't want to be different from the rest of the family (yet). Same thing with the perm thing last season or the season before.

  • I've always liked them.  Sure, they made some choices I would never make, but they really seem to have it all together, love each other, and love their kids.  I liked that they said in the Q&A episode that they do make an effort to spend individual time with their kids.

And some of those older girls are really pretty, I bet they get some freaky fan letters.

  • I wonder if their son is gonna have as many kids lol
