have you ever forced yourself to throw up?

i can feel my food at the back of my throat, and it is causing me MAJOR pain. i would love to just gag myself...but not sure if that would be a bad idea.

this sucks.

Re: have you ever forced yourself to throw up?

  • i did one morning. i was just waiting for the puke to come out and it was taking to long so i barely put my finger in the back of my throat and voila. i instantly felt better.

  • I have... but not because of queasiness from pregnancy.

Don't do it.  Just breathe and remember that it will be over soon... take small sips of room temperature water, and focus on something other than the pain.  Throwing up wont make you feel any better in the end.

  • Nope, it has to completely overwhelm me.  Even when I was sick as a kid, my mom would tell me to let it happen and I just couldn't.

    Hope you feel better soon!

  • i'm sorry your sick.. I wouldn't force it though... just try to relax and let it pass.  Whenever I get sick, it doesn't make me feel better at all.. its followed by a major head ache and the shakes!

  • Yes, all the time in high school and college but that was not pg-related.

I've only had a case of vomiting one morning so far during my pregnancy, and the first time that morning, I did gag myself and felt a lot better afterwards. The second time that morning, it came up on its own.

  • My SIL did when she was pg, she said it really helped her.

When I was pg with DS, I sipped on water all day-that REALLY helped me.

definitely have to disagree on this one. i felt like death before and was so relieved after i threw up. i think if you know it's going to eventually happen (feeling it in the back of your throat) it's fine.

  • Only if you count the morning after in college.

ok... yeah, probably, but to feel better, our bellies should have something in them, and if you're helping out your morning sickness because you feel it in the back of your throat, when are you ever going to try to fight through it to see if maybe today is the day that you're going to keep that meal down?  Not to mention pregnancy sensitive gums and teeth and the wearing of the enamel because of the vomiting.  If it's there, it might make you feel better, yes, but anticipating it coming up only makes it worse too.  If you try to work through it and keep your food down if you can, its better in the end, imo.

  • Yes!  I very rarely throw up naturally... and sometime its just sitting in my throat and like prior poster i barely get my finger in my mouth and its instand relief!

yeah, obviously you should eat something after you barf. in my case (i know everyone is different) i had some saltines and juice afterward and then an actual breakfast a little bit later. it also helps if you just sit up in your bed for a few minutes before actually standing up.

  • I did yesterday. It was the first time doing that since being pg (I've done it for migraines before). I felt so much better afterwards and then ate something that was easier on my stomach.
