2nd Time Moms with Large Age Diff Between Kids???

I am a 2nd time mom with a large age difference between my kids. I have an 11 year old from my previous marriage and I am now 5 weeks pg with baby #2. At times I feel like a 1st time mom because it has been 11 years since I had my daughter. DH thinks that this pregnancy "should be like riding a bike". God love him, but sometimes he has no clue!

I just wanted to see if anyone else has felt this way.

  • I'm not a second or first time mom, but I am an oldest sibling with a big age difference.  I am 27 and my little brother just turned 15.  My mom definitely was a parent two different and separate times.  In some respects, things were like "riding a bike" but there were so many differences between her pregnancy with me and her pregnancy with my brother that made things completely different.

You will do great.  And just think, you now have a built in babysitter!  I loved watching my brother.  I wanted very much from the time I was young not to be an only child.

  • We have a 12 year old (from his previous relationship) and a 2 year old together.
  • We have a 12 year old (from his previous relationship) and a 2 year old together.  It wasn't hard for her to adjust, and she really enjoys being a big sister.  Now we have #3 on the way! Hopefully the transition goes as smoothly.
  • I have a 14 and 11 year old from a previous marriage, and we have a 5 year old together. Whew!

That's pretty much exactly how it worked with me and my sister.  I'm 23 she's 11.  My mom just had totally different parenting styles  for the two of us.  She said because shes older this time around, there's a lot of stuff that doesn't bother her now that did when I was that age.

  • My daughter from my first marriage will turn 8 two weeks before this baby is due.  It's definitely a different experience!  Even the "rules" (i.e. what to eat, what to avoid) have changed.  I think the fact that the two pregnancies have been COMPLETELY different symptom wise makes it even more unique!

  • My dd will be 6 when this baby is born - not a huge difference but I don't remember much from my first pg.  I think the problem with the "should be like riding a bike" comment is that every pg is different and every baby is different so even if you remember, it could be completely different.
  • I have just found out I am pregnant and I have a daughter who will be 13 when this one is born. I never antisipated that there would be 13 years between my children. Guess life doesn't always work the way we plan it.

  • My DD was almost 11 when our baby girl was born. It was great! She absolultey loved being a big sister and we never had any jealously issues. She will be almost 13 this time around.
  • This is going to be my 3rd, my other two will be 9 1/2 and 6 when this one is born.  I am actually happy about the age difference b/c the older two can actually do alot of things for themselves (get dressed, make snacks, keep themselves occupied, etc).  I honestly do not know how all you girls do it with kids so close in age!

But on the flip side I feel like I am starting all over again!

My sister and I are 8 yrs apart, I hated it when I was in High School b/c I was always the babysitter....I will not be doing that with my children.  But, we are best friends now....

  • My daughter will be 11 in Dec. and I am almost 9 weeks.  I have stepsons aged 7 and 9 so there will be quite a difference, but they all love kids and I'm sure they will be a big help.  This pregnancy is so different than my first 11 years ago.  I was a lot younger and I have different symptoms this time around.  Plus before I didn't work full time and have three kids, so it's sometimes more challenging.
  • This will be my third.  I have a 16 yr old and 15 yr old from a previous relationship.  Things have totally changed since I was pregnant with them.  It really is like starting over and like this is my first again.  I also have a 7 yr old stepdaughter.

With my first 2 I never had any type of morning sickness, just headaches, but with this one I am miserable all day long.  No throwing up so far, but constant nausea and dizziness.
