No sibling tours at Evanston Hospital

I'm sure it's happening at other hospitals too, but I got a call yesterday that the hospital tour I had scheduled for my kids has been cancelled.  I understand the reasoning - they don't want to exposed a bunch of Moms and newborns to random kid germs, especially in light of the flu spreading all over the place.  But I'm still pretty bummed about it.  My boys (8 and 5) were excited about it, and we were gonna make a whole day of it, scheduling my ultrasound and doctor appointment that day as well as another fun activity at the University.

Now I feel like pulling the kids out of school for the afternoon is selfish, but the only other option is that my husband stays home to get them from school (dr. office is too far away to get back in time if he goes to my appointments with me).  Just discussing that left me in tears, though.

Couldn't they continue the sibling tours if they made visitors wear a surgical mask - maybe even gloves and those shoe covers?  The kids would think that was awesome and they wouldn't be spreading their germs while they were walking through the maternity ward.

Re: No sibling tours at Evanston Hospital

  • I know, that is a bummer!  That is where I will be delivering too. I think my kids would have really benefited from that...although maybe they will be doing it again by this spring as I get closer to my due date.

I know you are frustrated, but in a few weeks when you have your baby, you will probably be glad that they are doing everything possible to protect your little one from unneccessary germs.

  • Just found out they are not allowing any visitors under 21 (with exceptions for under age Dads).

Anyone know if there is WiFi in the recovery rooms so I can at least Skype my kids?
