His babysitter emailed me this morning to let me know that her daughter had a runny nose, but she was chalking it up to teething. Still, she wanted to let us know in case we wanted to be cautious. But we decided we were okay with it. I nursed him on my lunch break before bringing him over and noticed then that his nose was running! And she texted me during the afternoon saying it was "pretty runny"...it's been running ever since I picked him up tonight. He seems to have gone downhill (don't we all in the evenings?)...has woken up twice since going down just before 7, all runny and gurgly, and clearly not feeling great. He also kept swallowing loudly, over and over (I figure he has post nasal drip and/or his throat hurts). I gave him Tylenol, which he normally loves but he didn't like it tonight (maybe b/c it's a new bottle). After the 2nd time he woke up I decided to put him in the Ergo and he was OUT immediately (normally even in the middle of the night he'd be alert and looking around). I'm sure it's more comfortable for him to sleep upright right now. Crossing fingers that it gets better before it gets worse. He's only had like 1.5 colds and they were the stuffy nose variety - he's never had a RUNNY nose. Any tips?

Re: Cal's sick. :(
Suck it out with the bulb syringe...
Poor baby! Feel better soon!!!
Just be glad you're nursing and keep sticking that boob in his mouth. It is so frustrating right now to have Jack be sick and to feel I can do NOTHING for him - when he was sick last April (for all of 3 days when DH and I had flu for 3 weeks) it was SO satisfying to give him (bottles of) breastmilk. Now I give Jack formula and feel like all it's doing is clogging him up more (dairy - bleah.) But at least it's keeping him hydrated.
Other things that help - Tiny Remedies Little Noses saline spray - taking him in very warm (but not HOT) steamy shower with you and/or DH to get wet and to inhale lots of good steam - cool or warm mist humidifier - Vick's Baby Rub (not vapo-rub - specifically a product called Baby Rub), elevating crib (we used two bricks under the "feet" to raise the one side of Jack's crib.)
I am HATING this cold, it sux!! Jack's had it for a week now and is still so congested.

He sleeps part of the night in his crib and part of the night w/ us. Don't know why I didn't think of elevating his crib...that's what we did last time he was sick, but it's been a while! The Ergo just came to me for some reason...maybe just cuz I wanted to be close to my baby when he's sick.
Thanks, risp!

I did think of that but I wanted to wait until DH got home so one of us could be w/ Cal (if he was awake, which he was at the time I was thinking of it - now he's sleeping on me) and the other could wash the syringe.

Thanks for all the tips, Lucy! We did the hot shower thing last time he was sick, b/c his nose was so stoffy that he was having trouble breathing. With a runny nose I would think a hot shower would just make it worse? We do have a humidifier. I'm sorry Jack's still sick!
