Pregnant after a Loss

Anyone taking maternity leave early?

So my doctor is going to try some in office procedures at 37 weeks. It?s not really a promise of induction but it could set me over the edge, obviously if she breaks my water it will, lol. If I don?t go into labor before 38 weeks I?ll be induced.

I?m considering taking my maternity leave at 36 weeks.... this will still allow me a solid 6 weeks off with baby..however I was really looking forward to 8 weeks, but I?m sure my employer will still allow that if I ask. I?m just so miserable now....feet are terribly swollen, I have the annoying pupps rash that will only get worse, I?m achey, uncomfortable...ugh what else can we add to the complaint list. Most of this is all normal but holy crap my first pregnancy was a breeze compared to this!

I feel so bad to complain about how this is going...but I can?t help it! Baby is totally worth it all and I?m very thankful we have a healthy baby on the way....so don?t get me wrong....but I just don?t know how to deal with being so annoyingly uncomfortable.

Anyone else going to take maternity leave a week or two earlier?

Re: Anyone taking maternity leave early?

  • I took mine a week earlier than I planned but that was largely due to being rather dialated and likely to go into labor at any moment (or so I thought).  I am taking 12 weeks though so that influences my decision too...I'll still have a good amount of time with the baby.  If you think you will likely go into labor from these procedures you should at least make arrangement with your boss to have someone to cover for you those first two weeks if need be.  Good luck, it's a hard decision to make

  • Not me.  I'm working until the bitter end.  I want all of the time after the baby is born.  I'm pretty miserable as well, but I have a somewhat easy work arrangement...I can work from home.  I guess if you know that you won't go past a certain date, then it is worth it.  With me...I could see myself going off work at 38 weeks and I don't have him until 41 weeks or something.  You'll make the right decision.  GL

  • I think I'm going to stop working the Wednesday of Thanksgiving week. That will mean starting my leave one week before my due date. I know my doc won't let me go much past a week over, so at the most it would be 2 weeks before LO arrives. I'm also taking 12 weeks, and may only come back for a few weeks or a month - so I'm not as worried about having all the time afterwards. I feel your pain, I was whining this morning about being very uncomfortable and not being able to sleep or rest and feeling awful at work. I'm beyond grateful for baby too, but that doesn't mean we aren't allowed to complain when we feel bad! Hang in there!
  • I thought I was going to work until the end...we'll see though! It just depends, but for now, I've already talked to my boss about beginning my maternity leave on December 14th... if something changes I'm sure he won't mind if I come in! =)
  • My last day will be at 39 weeks...2 more weeks, wahoo!!!

  • I wish I had the option. My employer will only allow you to take the time if you have the note from your doctor. My doctor will not write a note for what they call "discomfort" (I call it pain, misery, torture...you get my drift!!) I have to have something medically wrong in order to start my leave early. If my BP keeps going the way it has been these past few days I'll probably have to start early. I'd love to stop working at 38 weeks though.
