2nd Trimester

Question about yoga (TMI)

I just started to do yoga and noticed I have some serious diarrhea.  Is this a common side effect?  I emailed my doctor as well, but wanted to see if any of you experienced in yoga have had this happen.  Thanks so much.

Re: Question about yoga (TMI)

  • I'm gonna say no, it's not a common side effect!  I could see yoga/excercise help out your bowls and keep everything flowing. But I did yoga and never dealt with any of that!

  • I've never had that happen with yoga, but haven't done yoga since I've been pregnant.

Is there a reason why you haven't?  I'm just wondering if it's not good for me.

  • I just started prenatal yoga, and I wouldnt consider that the cause. Both probably just happened to show up aorund the same time.

    Good luck!!

There are certain poses that are contraindicated in pregnancy - you should do prenatal yoga or otherwise ask your instructor for modifications.

  • Have you been constipated?  Even mildly?  If I haven't gone in a few days I have a rough loose day or two then I'm regular again.  Then get constipated, then the cycle starts again.

It may be a coincidence, but I guess it could be possible yoga may have helped get things moving.

  • I've never had that happen and I've done yoga before and during pregnancy. But it is very holistic so it is possible that maybe a certain pose caused it. I'd ask the instructor if anything can be doing that. Also def switch to prenatal yoga - it's just as beneficial (more in some respects) and take away any poses that may not be ok during pregnancy.

This is why I haven't done it. I haven't found a prenatal yoga class at a time that is convenient for me.

  • I do prenatal yoga and haven't had any issues.  Have you had any changes in your diet?
