Pregnant after a Loss

heartbeat question?

Hello Ladies,

Sorry in advance cause I know this question gets asked a lot! Just trying to get the specifics on my particular case.  I had an ultrasound today and the dr. was not able to see a h/b yet.  She said the growth was right on target and didn't seem overly concerned that there was no h/b yet.  My ticker is 5 weeks 6 days today based on my HCG trigger which was on Oct. 1st.  I had no implantation spotting this pregnancy so I can't even begin to pinpoint when implantation could have happened.  Does no h/b at this point in my pregnancy seem alright?  Every point of view, the good, the bad and the ugly will be appreciated!  Thanks!

Re: heartbeat question?

  • It just starts to beat early in the 6+week mark, so not seeing it at this point is totally normal!

  • Any time before 7 week it is ok to see no heartbeat. after all think about how truly small that heart would be even if it was beating.

  • My first u/s was at 5 weeks and 3 days and they only saw the sac, yolk sac and fetal pole.  At the following appointment which was 6 weeks and 3 days they saw the hb.

  • From what I've heard you typically can't see a hb until 6w at the earliest.  We saw this little guys hb at 6w1d...hope this helps...

  • I saw ours at 6w6d but it was slow then - like 130. They said we may not see it at that point even before they did the u/s.

Not to be rude or anything but over 120 is normal and healthy. So 130 would be good and not "slow".

  • I had my first u/s at 5w6d and there was also no heartbeat.  I went back at 7w4d and there was a nice strong and steady beat at 159...so it's just a little early for you yet.
  • I had my first u/s today at 6w5d and did not see the heartbeat.  Before the dr. began she warned us it might too early even now to see it.  She reassured us everything else looked great.  Of course I've been worried all day, but after a little research anything before 7 weeks is iffy.  We go back in 2 weeks and I think the waiting is the hardest part!
