I work in a similar environment to you. The people are nice, but we're all holed up in our offices, the work is boring, and... well. Having left a job that had a LOT of "a" in it.... I really miss it.
But in the end, money does rule. If I could have "A" but w/ a 50% paycut, I just couldn't do it.
"Beer is living proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." ~Benjamin Franklin
I have worked in several super-negative horrible offices before, and knowing what I do now, I would RUN if I was ever in that position again. It made me miserable and I hated my life.
But, I'm not the breadwinner in my family, and my salary is just extra, so I may feel differently if DH were to lose his job or something like that. If that happened, I would definetly take the highest paying job, no matter how terrible the environment.
I'm super lucky that I have 100% option A and 100% option B in my current position. I love my job and it's a great company, and also a high salary with wonderful perks. So these jobs are out there if you look hard enough.
My previous job was all B-- work was so boring and I was not social with anyone. The days would go by so slowly. I hated that job and would slack a lot. My new job is so much better-- I don't have a ton of friends at work, but it is interesting and there's always someone to talk to about work or otherwise. And I am making a little less, though it is actually more flexible wrt working from home, etc.
I don't work at my dream job but I do get great pay and I love my co-workers. Plus they are pretty flexible with my hours however I get paid hourly (my choice). I can work as much or as little as I need (within reason). My dream job? To be a therapist that specializes in adoption and adolscence.
I chose "b" because I did the sorority thing, had a great time as a young adult, and now have a fulfilling life outside of work. Work is not a social thing for me, I do it to pay for the things I do outside of work. Show me the money, LOL!
I think we work at the same company - LOL! Granted, my boss is in a different state from me and I know if we were in the same office, things would be way different. She is a blast and we really get along great. My office is very corp and very business like and I hate it. Due to this, my boss has allowed me to work from home twice a week so I am only in the office 3 days a week. I hate being in the office most days. My boss does allow me a lot of flexiblity as I get my job done and do what has to be done so I am very lucky in that sense - not all the managers here are like that.
