I am on Team Green and would love for it to stay that way. I know all I have to do is let the tech know before the ultrasound and he/she will just avoid that area while we're looking at the screen. My problem is I have this fear that I'm going to tell them we don't want to know and while we're looking the tech will say "woops, sorry" and we'll know the gender. I've decided I think I'll be pretty upset to find out. So please, ease my fear that in two weeks I'll no longer be Team Green. How did your tech make sure that you didn't find out?

Also, just an ultrasoud question: Did the tech automatically print out the pics or did you have to ask them to print them out?

Unless you are trained or a great ultrasound reader as compared to the general population, you probably won't be able to tell even if the wand goes over the right area. This is also assuming that "the area" is in a place easily accessible to the tech (which it often isn't). I know that our tech asked us if we wanted to know and then told us so she obviously could tell when we couldn't.

For us, the pics were always automatically printed out and handed to us at the end.

I wouldn't worry about it. I was watching the screen intently and about 5 minutes in the tech asked us if we wanted to know. We did and she immediately said, Boy. So, obviously it was there but to a normal, untrained eye it's hard to tell!

And for both my pregnancies they just printed pics automatically.

I am not a team greener, we are team blue. But my tech didn't even ask if we wanted to know the sex, nor did she mention it at any time during our u/s. Before she was done she asked if we had any questions and I asked if she could tell the sex. Then she proceded to look around and confirm we had a "peepee" from a couple of different angles.

Maybe sex isn't something they look for otherwise (?). Also, she just gave us a few printed pictures afterward, we didn't ask for specific ones. We did get a really good face, feet, and body shot (you cannot tell the sex on the picture).

I totally understand where you're coming from, but you have nothing to worry about. The ultrasound techs have a long list of things that they need to get pictures of for the doctor -- cerebellum, 4 chambered heart, etc. The sex of the LO is just a bonus for the parents, really. The doctors don't need to know.

So, when we told the technician at the outset that we didn't want to know, she just had us look away when she needed to take images of the legs and things in that area. There was no way for us to accidentally find out.

She printed out lots of pictures for the doctor and also gave us several to take home.

So, I think you'll do great! Good luck and go Team Green!

Unless you know what you're looking for, you won't be able to tell. The ultrasound clinic I went to isn't allowed to tell you the sex anyway, but the one tech asked at my last ultrasound and I said I didn't want to know and she said she'd just steer clear of that area. I think they mainly focus on the size of things and that everything looks the way it should and they certainly won't be measuring anything down there! I wouldn't worry about it.
And also I did have to ask for the pictures, better off to ask when you're done than to just assume and then it be too late.

The ultrasound tech said that since we didn't want to find out, she didn't even look for it....So, she never found out and it's not even written in our charts (so we don't have to worry about a doctor slipping one day)...Hopefully it'll go the same way for you. Also, the U/S tech just printed out 4 pics for us...we didn't ask, but that's what she's done for our other ultrasounds.

Before our tech even started we made it clear we did not want to know the gender of our baby. There were a few times she went over that area, but it was so fast you couldn't tell if you wanted to. The doctor came in, and did a quick look as well. She also knew we did not want to know. They were both great about it.

We got 4 pictures printed without even asking.

I had the same worry. My sister-in-law kept telling me to make sure I didn't show her the pictures because she would be able to tell - I just kept telling her that they wouldn't give me any pictures that included "that" area!! Anyway, the night before my big U/S, I had a dream that the tech made the mistake of telling us what the baby was, so when i went in for the U/S, I made a point of telling her about my dream - we all laughed about it. She told us to turn away and close our eyes while she did what she had to. She also told us that she always refers to it as "the baby" so she doesn't spoil it for anyone. Don't worry so much - these are trained professionals who deal with this problem everyday!! Good Luck!!

I wouldn't worry about them telling you if you say you don't want to know, but I will advise to not look at all when they first start until they tell you it's safe. With this baby, the perinatologist put the wand to my belly and we got a full shot of our little guys penis. The tech didn't even have to tell us it was a boy because it was that obvious.

That happened to my neighbor! The Dr bumped the tech and it was right there zoomed on their little boys stuff.

I told the tech a few times that we didn't want to find out gender. I was so afraid she'd slip but she always just said "baby or baby's arms, legs, etc". There was an u/s tech newbie in the room that she was training and even though she described everything she was doing, she never once even brought up the gender or that she was getting close to that area. I'm sure she checked what she needed to know, but didn't let on about anything and we appreciated that. I guess just be as clear as you can with your tech that this is important to you. Good luck!!

Go Team Green!!

When we went for the u/s I immediately told the tech we didnt want to know. She said she doesn't tell the parents unless they ask specifically anyway. She did all the measurements they needed and pointed out the arms, legs, heart, brain, etc. She did go passed that area a couple times but it was so quick that you wouldn't be able to tell without the tech telling you. So you should walk out of there still being Team Green.

Also, they automatically print 3 pictures each time I go. GL!

Our tech was able to tell at both the 16 week and 21 week u/s, but didn't reveal the gender as the first question asked before starting was "do you want to know?" - to which the reply was NO. I was afraid I might see something and thanks to Dr Google know what to look for, but the truth is that unless they specifically go to the area, there really is no way to tell. Even though we are Team Green a part of me kind of wanted to know... but there was just no way I could tell anything. We saw and she pointed out every organ and body part, except the goods. It's isn't easy, but it is definitely worth the wait

I was also scared I would find out. I just told the tech when we went in and had no trouble. Of course, the doc tried to find out and couldnt. The tech automatically printed pics and gave them to us. However, we had to remind her about the vhs and cd we brought to get the video.

I'm going to be the p.i.t.a. here...but I had this experience with DS. As soon as she turned the u/s on, the tech said "if you guys want to know the sex, i already know". I was like "NO!!!!!" To me, the speed of her "certainty" meant boy. B/c it would jump right out at her faster than female anatomy would. I knew it had to be a boy...and I was right.

I spoke to the tech at my 12 week u/s about this and she said just to make sure that I tell the tech as soon as I walk in that we don't want to know. I am going to be very firm this time around!

what my midwife told me is that the tech will stay close in and up towards the head while we are looking, then she'll turn the screen away and do the measurements she needs to on the bottom half of the baby, then she'll go back to the head and give us another look. But honestly I feel that if there is an opps, like the baby moved, rolled or jumped around and we found out then it was meant to be and it would be the babies way of telling us and that would be cool with me.

That's crazy because as soon as our tech was done measuring she asked if we wanted to know what we were having. We said yes (because at the time we thought it was a boy) and she immediately without hesitation said "I'm VERY confident it's a GIRL!" hehe So I think to a trained eye, if a baby is in a good position, they can tell right away.
