Trying to Get Pregnant

Non GP ???

Has anybody heard that puggles are hard to train?  I really realy really want one when we move into our new house but 2 people have told me that.... I thought i saw some cute little puggle faces in someone's siggy.

Re: Non GP ???

  • My neighbors have one (a puppy) and they have been taking him to petsmart training and he is doing really well. Now granted he is super excited when I go over there, but he is a puppy still...

    He is too cute!!

  • My friend has one. She says he is very hyper and spastic and chews a lot of things despite her trying to keep it from happening.  I don't know how much effort she has put into training though.
  • I think every dog can be hard to train if it is not done right. As long as you have the time to train the dog it shouldn't be to hard.

  • I don't have a puggle but another type of beagle mix. Beagles tend to be a bit crazy and, well, as Winston's trainer told us..."jerks" as well. With any mutt you could get the dominant traits of any breed involved ( n a puggle's case, the pug or beagle). Your best bet would be to see if there are any at the shelters and then go and ask the workers how it acts. Every dog is different. Heck, people cringe when they know that we are TTC b/c we have a Chihuahua ( notoriously bad with small children) but Chloe doesn't act like that at all.

  • Ok I had to share this cute video of her dog...

  • I have a beagle and a beagle mix.  Beagles are stubborn but very food-motivated, so training isn't too difficult.  One of mine is still pretty young and has a lot of energy, but she's a good girl.  The older is such a sweetheart.

I am not under the impression that pugs are difficult dogs, either.

P.S. They are beagle/pug mixes.  A "puggle" is a made up name for a mutt created by greedy breeders; giving it a separate name implies it a real breed.  Please consider rescue, I know there are plenty of beagle/pug mixes out there.

Acutally that was the plan... all the dogs i have gotten over the years have been rescue dogs. Smile

Our dog is a Pom-Chi mix (see her below--Penelope) and she has the dominant traits of both. Chihuahuas are not always the nicest dogs and Pomeranians frequently suffer from "Napolean" syndrome. They think they're big dogs and get very protective and snappish.

We rescued Penny from a shelter, took her to puppy classes, and she's great. She  still doesn't love strangers, but she knows how to behave.

  • I agree with pp that say that it very much depends on the time and effort that you will be putting in to training your new pup. Beagles are typically very motivated by food.

If you are able to rescue a puppy start with informal training right away and as soon as you are able enroll them into a puppy kindergarten class. Good luck and I hope this helps.

  • BIL has a puggle and he's extremely hyper, even now that he's exiting his puppy stage. I don't know how well he's being trained, though. He's definitely more beagle than pug.

On the other side, we have friends who also have a puggle (definitely more pug) and he's extremely well behaved.

Depends on the dog and depends on the owner. GL! They're really cute dogs :)
