Back Pain... uggggh

For the last week or so I have been having horrible back pain. I'm sure this is only going to get worse, but I was just curious to see if anyone has found anything to help. I've tried a heating pad, hot bath, back support for my desk chair, firm pillow to sleep on... nothing seems to work.  Any suggestions? I am only 18 weeks, is this normal to be having pain this early?

  • I am having it too.  I wish I had a suggestion!

  • Back pain was my 1st "symptom" (even tho I didn't know I was preg, I blamed it on other stuff ^_^).  Of course, I already had back issues before getting preg so I'm sure that didn't help.

My doc approved me for Tylenol throughout the pregnancy & for Mortrin up to week 20.  He said if the pain is still bad by wk 20, he'll re-evaluate the Motrin.  Those are pretty much the only things that help take the edge off.  It ry to only take it if it's extremely bad pain or if it's keeping me up at night.

  • Are you sleeping with a body pillow?  I think most of my back pain is caused during sleep since I have to be on one side and I wind up uncomfortable.  You could try sleeping with a pillow between your knees (I have done this the past few nights and it seems to be helping) or get one of those snoodles (sp?).  Just a suggestion.  Good luck!

  • I've had really bad back pain since really early on.  Tylenol doesn't really help me, but I've found that I always have a couple days of relief after going to the chiropractor, where they do some massage.  I started Physical Therapy a couple weeks ago, also, to work on strengthening my core muscles so my back stops trying to do so much.

I actually had to be written out of work (I'm 27 weeks) this week because my job requires me to sit without a desk for 12 hours.  I only get a half hour lunch and I am in more pain than normal the entire shift, and the following few days.

Make sure you tell your doctor how much it's bothering you--PT and chiro have definitely been helpful!

  • Thanks ladies! Hope everyone feels better.
