What is the secret with the dang racing chip around the ankle?
The chip from the 1/2 on Sunday rubbed my ankle raw. I tried to go for a run today but couldn't because my shoe was rubbing it.
How do you wear your chip? What did I do wrong? Can you wear them on your shoe? (I didn't see anyone doing this, everyone seemed to happily wear the dang thing around their ankles).
TIA
Re: Runners
oh man, that sounds painful
The chips that I have always had have little zippy tie things that I would attach it to my shoelaces.......... never had to wear one around my ankle.
Sorry, that totally sucks
For both of the races I have done I wore them on my shoe.
That totally sucks that it rubbed your ankle raw. Ouch!!
For every marathon and half I have run I always put them on my shoe. I have used both ChronoTrack tags which are disposable and the ones that you have to give back which was kind of a pain.
I have never seen the ones on your ankle, but found this which is probably what you used.
The Winning Time system, by Winning Time USA is the second most popular system in use for running events. The transponder is attached to a bracelet that is worn around the ankle. Because of this feature (wearing the chip on the ankle), the Winning Time system is almost always chosen for multi-sport events where footwear may be changed during the event.
Was it a smaller race? it is usually the larger races that use the ChronoTrack tags, which are great because you don't have to worry about returning them.
Sorry your ankle is bothering you, I hope it feels better soon.
Ah yes, the dreaded ankle chip timers! Definitely not my favorite. Thankfully, the races I run that have ankle timers all tend to be in Nov/Dec when I can wear cold weather gear (ie: pants). I either wear it around my pant leg, around my sock if it comes up enough, or Body Glide my ankle if I am going to put the ankle chip directly on my skin. I hope that helps.
I am sorry it cut/rubbed your ankle! Certainly not good! Hopefully it heals soon and you can get a good run in!
Hmm, the chips for running races I've only had on my shoes with the zip tie. The cool newer ones are stickers for your shoe.
For my triathlons they are ankle ones since you are changing shoes and they give you a neoprene band to put it on which is very soft.
The only suggestion I have is if it's rubbing would be to put Body Glide on your ankle in the spot where the band would be.
