Do you give more Halloween candy to cuter kids?

Or do you give the same amount to each child? Do you give more to younger kids than you give to older ToTers(preteens/teenagers)?

We took Ben and Emily to a trick-or-treating event yesterday and Emily looked especially darling in her costume. She got tons of comments and compliments AND she got almost twice as much candy as Ben did, even though we stayed together:(

I feel bad for Ben, who looked completely awesome in his policeman costume. Thankfully, he didn't seem to notice. Should I divide their candy up equally after Halloween? Or, maybe I'll just eat the difference myself;)

  • I give littler kids (10 and under) more than big kids (preteens/teens).

  • We don't really get trick-or-treaters in our apt complex but when I lived with my parents, we always gave the same amount to each kid.  Teenagers who came by in their football jerseys got less just because they didn't put any effort into their "costume".  They never knew the difference because they always came by later than the rest of the kids.  We're lucky if we get four kids at our apt each year so I usually give them each a handful of candy instead of just two or three pieces.

  • We don't get alot so, they all get candy bars.
  • Mh does, lol. If they are wearing a costume he likes or if someone comments about liking our buckeye flag, he would unload on them. I just hand out more as the night goes on so I'm not stuck with too much candy at the end.

  • We give out full size candy bars so each kid only gets one...but i do let the younger kids (under 10) pick what they want, and I just give the older kids whatever i feel like.

  • In the past, we did goodie bags for the ToT's.  Each bag was filled with 2 pieces of chocolate and a bag of pretzel's.  After those were gone, we gave out what we had left.  We used to get around 300 kids, so I tried to give each child (10 or younger) the same amount and the older kids (pre-teens and teens) a much smaller amount.

  • My DS is wearing that policeman costume this year too!!!
  • I think that is has to do with more of a boy/girl thing.  Than a "cute" thing.  Like, people are suckers for a cute little girl.  I only give less candy to the teens/pre-teens that come to my door.
  • Poor Ben!  I give everyone the same amount, especially within the same group!

  • Ben looks beyond awesome in his costume!  Love him=)
  • I tend to give an extra piece to kids who have gone really above and beyond with their costumes.  Your kids (based on the pics in your sig) would have gotten the same amounts b/c their costumes are equally cool.  A kid who shows up at my door wearing the same clothes he wore to school and just pulled a He-Man mask over his face isn't going to get as much as a kid who really made an effort to get dressed up.  I don't get too many old trick or treaters, but the same rules apply for them. :)  It doesn't really have anything to do with how "cute" they are.

  • yup. ugly costume kids get one hard piece of pal bubblegum.  Stick out tongue

nahh..for tricker treaters at my door, the more elaborate the costume, the more the child is doted upon, the less extras they need from me.

everyone gets the same.  I even give the too big kids (like they might be driving soon) the same.  everyone likes a treat.

  • I bag up the candy so that we can distribute it evenly. One year we just had a bowl of candy and the kids do notice if you give more to one kid than the other.  I think it's easier to just bag it up and give it out that way.
