Im not getting it (ive never gotten any flu shot). I wash my hands a lot (especially before I eat anything) & never touch my nose/mouth/eyes with my hands during the day. Ill ask all visitors to wash their hands before handling my baby (which I think is common sense). Also take my vitamins & try to eat right & stay healthy. I also dont go around licking or making out with sick people.
It's certainly a personal choice, and for you a necessity not to get it. I did get both, but I'm still super vigilant about washing my hands after touching things, I carry an antibacterial gel and spray for my hands. Also avoiding people who are coughing, and washing up if I touch something they have touched like a door handle or shopping cart. Also taking Vit. C and D, and just making sure I drink tons of water and get lots of rest. If I start feeling the slightest bit sick I slow down and take it easy for the day, take an extra nap or hot bath.

Just be extra safe with germs. I wash my hands about 30+ times a day. I carry wet wipes with me, so I use those when I'm out. Keep your hands away from your mouth and face (if you haven't washed). I also gargle with salt water and/or Listerine 3 times a day. It helps get the germs out of your mouth. Drink a lot of water and OJ (vitamin C) and take your vitamins. Also, frequently clean things you touch a lot - car steering wheel, keys, phone, etc. That's what I do!
I'm not getting it, I usually overdose on vit C, normally and wash hands and use sanitizer frequently. I also, always clean my desk at work everyday, with clorox wipes. Once LO comes, it will be required for everyone to wash their hands before touching them and if they are feeling even a little bad, don't even bother to come to visit, until they're better.
well i probably will end up getting it- although i'm trying to wait for a preservative free version, but we'll see.
anyways, i would just be extra careful about going out, especially for the first 6 weeks, with your baby. also, if people are coming over to see you and the baby ask that they please do not come if they have been sick, feel like they might be getting sick or have been around anyone who is sick. also, make sure anyone who handles the baby (including you and DH) wash your hands often.
i've also heard that wearing your baby when you are out in public can protect them better against germs- so people can't just reach out and touch them or sneeze on them, etc. they will be up close against your body, and protected. do you have a sling?
I've never gotton the flu shot and I won't be getting the H1N1 shot. IMO they came up with this WAY to fast for me to inject into my body especially when I'm with LO.
I was able to get the shot last week, but DH is a grad student with a lot of his undergrad lab students and lab mates have been sick, so I was super careful before and still am super careful!
Aside from obsessive handwashing and Purell-using? By obsessive I mean: Everytime I make a transaction w/ money/debit card, before eating, after bathroom, everytime I come home from being out.
Avoid crowded areas- do your grocery shopping early morning on weekdays or early on Sunday morning or late Fri/Sat night - least busy times from what I can tell.. Sanitize frequently- keyboard and mouse, doorknobs, telephones, faucets, car steering wheel, tv remote control, oven/stove knobs, shopping cart handle when at the store, etc. I've also pretty much stopped eating out during the flu season, or when the norovirus is making its way around. Restaurants are notorious for having sick employees come in to work - serving food, preparing food, all while coughing, sneezing, even vomiting.

I have never received the regular flu shot so I don't plan on getting either. I work at a school so I sanitize my office everyday and make sure I santize everytime a student enters the office. I wash my hands several times a day and use hand sanitizer. DH has had a cold for about 2 weeks now and I've successfully avoided getting it from him. As far as LO, hands must be washed before handling her and no one will be allowed in the house if they are feeling ill.

I got a regular flu shot, but am not getting the H1N1.
I'm stocking up on hand sanitizer and lysol wipes.

GL!
Haha, I would hope not!
I thought I read somewhere (though I could be making it up) that there were shots for people who were allergic to eggs?

Did you try calling your county health department. Mine here in PA is not advertising they have it but I called and got it the same day.
