It depends on the weight limit of your car seat. Some only go up to 40 or 50 lbs., but ours goes up to 65 lbs. which means we'll be using it for a few more years.

I'd keep her in a 5-point for as long as possible. Check your carseat and see what the weight limit is. Like the PP, ours goes up to 65lb and we're planning on keeping DD in it until she maxes out the weight or the carseat expires.
Even if you switch her, I'd still go for a 5-point booster.
Most state laws have the min at 4 years and 40 pounds but as the others have said, my girls will be in the 5 point harness seats for way longer than that. I think my sister moved her kids when they started kindergarten and were more mature - you don't want your child to be able to move the seat belt around easily and stuff like that.
