DS has Acid Reflux :-(

Sorry I have sort of been MIA. I have mentioned last week Harrison was fussier than normal well after crying all day Sunday for the 2nd week in a row and not getting any better on Monday we went to go see the dr. Poor baby has a bad case of Acid Refulx! So now they switched his formula to Enfimal AR and have him on baby zantac 2x a day. I really hope this works because I want my happy baby back!

Anyone have any exp. with the enfamil AR or baby zantac? Does it really make a differance?

TIA!

Kristina

  • I haven't had any issues yet with Nate::knock on wood::he's just starting solids and so far so good.  I hope he gets better Kristina.

  • We were just diagnosed today too, Zantac 2x a day also but staying on her reg formula.
  • My younger DD had a bad case of acid reflux and was on meds until she was 11 months old.  We tried a few different formulas and found that the Good Start worked the best for her.  She was on 3 different meds in the 11 months since as she grew, she either outgrew the dose or the meds stopped working.  We had her sleeping in a baby papzan until she was around 4 months which is when we started her on cereal which made a difference.  (Adding cereal to her bottle did not make a difference).  She made a big improvement at around 8 months when she started on table foods and we had her completely off the bottle at 11 months which is when we were finally able to take her off the meds.  It was a long haul but she is totally fine now at 19 1/2 months.

  • Awww... poor love. I hope the Zantac and new formula do the trick for him!
  • Finny has reflux also as did my older lo. Zantac didn't do much for us unfortunately. I suggest you give it a try but we had to switch to Prevacid with both my lo's. Noah was on it for over a year. Finn has responded really well to it. It has actually been our miracle drug. It took about two weeks to work and we kept him on zantac during that time. He is great now and does not spit up at all hardly. The crying and screaming have all but stopped and he is really only fussy when he is tired.

I bf but we do give a bottle of formula a day. We are feeding him Similac Sensitive RS which is basically the Similac version of what you are feeding and we really like it. He seems to do really well with it. We also keep the mattress on his bassinet raised on one side.

I am sorry you have this but at least they have determined that this is the problem and hopefully your little one will feel better really soon. They didn't find this with my first until he was 3 months old and it kills me to think he was in pain all that time. Good luck. BTW, my neither of my lo's ever had to go through an upper gi. Prevacid takes a bit to work but prevented us from having to go that route.

  • Oh K! I am so very sorry but so glad it was diagnosed. What were the symptoms that caused them to test for it and how did they test it?

I hope Harrison feels sooooo much better soon!

  • I just wanted to say sorry that your LO has had a hard time, but I glad that your doctors listened and you have an answer. I hope the meds work quickly.
