2nd Trimester

yeast infections

I'm 99.9% sure I've got a yeast infection and I know I won't get to see my doctor until Tuesday (my appointment) to confirm it.

I did some research on the net and I know it's ok to take one of those over-the-counter creams but the 7 day one.

I just wanted to know, those of you who have had a yeast infection, did you wait till you went to the doctor to confirm or did you decide to go ahead with the medication anyway? (I doubt I'll be able to wait until next week to get the confirmation!!!)

Re: yeast infections

  • I didn't know I had a yeast infection until my doctor informed me of my pap results. She said I could just treat it with Monistat 7. If you have the signs of a yeast infection, I would just go ahead and treat it with over the counter meds.

  • I actually called my doctor to ask what I could take this was on a Friday and I had an appointment on Tuesday. They wanted to see me immediately and checked and I indeed had one and they said it is not something to mess with while pregnant and gave me a prescription for insert able cream for 3 days. I would call to ask them what they suggest and see if they want to see you.

  • According to what I read, you are supposed to confirm with your doctor.  I've used vasaline in the past (which I believe is safe during pregnancy) and it helps with the symptoms before you see the doctor.

  • Monistat is on my safe list, just with a disclaimer to not insert it too far.  I had one a couple months ago and waiting 2 days for my normally scheduled appointment before I started treating it....My Dr's response was, "Why!?"  :)  If it's on your safe list, and you can't get an appointment, and you're miserable, just take it!
  • Thanks ladies!

I'm going to give her a call this evening (she works in the evenings today) just to make sure but I doubt she'll see me and I'll take it because I am absolutely MISERABLE and going insane.

No one ever told me you're more susceptible to yeast infections while pregnant! The things they don't tell you!

Definitely! I actually think the UTI I had a few weeks ago is the culprit for this annoying infection!

  • Monistat 7 is on my "Safe List" as well with the same precautions as PP.  I didn't need an appointment, I just called the Nurse to confirm and she said to use Monistat 7 and if it didn't clear up then, I'd need to schedule an appointment.  Needless to say it worked.  Best of luck!

My midwife told me to just get Monistat 7 and did not say anything about put inserting it too far, so I have just been using it as directed.  I find if I don't insert it far enough, I leak too much and it burns.  How far is too far and why not insert it as far as the instructions say?  Should I be concerned?
