Face washes and acne treatmeants

I am using (always have) Neutrogena oil free acne wash---Wondering if any of you are using it? I will ask my Dr at my next apt, but looking for a little advise before then. Also anyone using Benzoyl Peroxide? I have held off, but wondering if I could dab it on problem spots?

Re: Face washes and acne treatmeants

  • My doctor told me no salicylic acid.  I would just check to make sure the wash doesn't have that in it.  However, I've also heard from others that over the counter medication is generally safe because the amounts aren't as strong as prescription.

  • i read anything is okay except for vitamin A based products
  •  -- i would hold off until you talk to your doc to be safe.

use those tissue paper, oil-absorbing wipes through the day & in this approaching cooler weather maybe you will even benefit from the oils..?

    :D

  • I asked my doctor yesterday and he said I could use.... NOTHING! Wha?  Crap.  I hope this clears up in 2nd tri!
  • salicylic acid is what you need to stay from.  benzo-whatever it's called is safe.  i use proactive. only thing that works!
  • Wait.... you can't use some products? I have never heard anything like this. I wash every day with a salicylic acid wash. I did before and after my BFP. I guess i'll have to ask my dr at my appointment next week.
  • I always used it before I got pregnant and its going to sound weird cuz I just put this on another post, but try plain cheap toothpaste! Not the gel kind but the plain white thick stuff-dries them out because of the baking soda in them- kinda like a clay mask! I just put them on the problem areas and leave it on overnight and they are gone or at least dramatically reduced by morning :) If you have whitening toothpaste with peroxide, you can skip it and use just baking soda and water instead
  • The info I have seen ssys that Benzoil peroxide and salycilic acid are both out.  I recently switched to a glycolic acid wash, which I got at Ulta.

    this.

  • Check with your doctor.  Some are completely against using anything, others are more laid back.  My OB said ANYTHING over the counter is fine, including salicylic acid and benz. peroxide.  I use a SA toner daily and BP every couple of nights.  She's fine with it.  She actually told me Proactive is a no-no.
  • I really love this Nicholee-

  • Thank you- My cousin in NY sent it to me in a forward type text once when I was having a terrible day, and ever since then, I have always tried to keep that in mind :)
