how long is a cough/cold contagious?

prob. stupid question....dh has had a cold the last few days...really just a bad dry cough.  he felt achey the first day and had a very low grade fever that first day too.  seems to be doing better, but still dry cough at night.  curious if I still need to be lysol-ing the entire house or if we're in the clear yet.  I'm paranoid, if you couldn't tell.  Trying to keep ds healthy...sick toddlers no fun!
