You can put it in partially frozen. It might take a little longer to cook and your fluid levels will probably change (the ice still in the chicken will melt and add a little more to the sauce you plan to add).
If you or DH will be home, you can probably put it on a little higher temp to offset the cooking time, but I wouldn't if you won't be there because it might burn.

It's about half defrosted. If I put it on low and let it go until about 5pm do you think it will be cooked through? I'm just going to shred it to add to another recipe later.
It should be ok on low for that long. I guess I can't really say without knowing how frozen it is, but you should be fine. If you're concerned, you can add a little bit of extra sauce/water, etc. and put it on medium. It will definitely be ok if you don't let it run dry.
If not, you can flip it to high when you get home and let it go for another hour. Or nuke it in the microwave! Also, if you're going to shred it for something else, you will be able to see the inside and know whether or not it's ready to eat (obviously), so you don't have to worry about accidentally eating undercooked chicken.
It actually might be more flavorful and tender if you cook it most of the way, shred it, and then put it back in the crock pot. All the tiny bits would absorb the moisture of the sauce and be really yummy.
