Dallas-Fort Worth Babies

car seat question

We bought a Graco SnugRide from a friend and had originally intended for our in-laws to use but our daycare situation took a different path and so we just decided to use it for Mack instead of getting a brand new one.

Anyways, the height limit is 26" and at his 4mo. appt. today he is like 25.8".

So - what would you do - buy a SnugRide32 (32lbs & 32") or go ahead and get a Britax?

I really like the snap n go stroller!  I'm sad about potentially giving that up.

Re: car seat question

  • Man!  I just sold my two SafeSeats (up to 32 pounds & 32 inches) this weekend at our garage sale.

Personally, I liked the infant seats in case the boys fell asleep in the car.  I used them until I HAD to get rid of them b/c the boys were at the height limit.  If you can find a good deal, I would go that route.

  • perfect timing, huh?
  • I would go with the Britax. We had to ditch our Chicco Key Fit because Colton was getting close too the height limit on it at 6 months.

Yeah, it was a PITA to get him in and out while he was asleep but we were going to need a bigger carseat (we have 3 Britax's and love them by the way) soon enough anyway. I didn't want to buy another carseat and then turn around in a few months buy another one.

  • I've been B&M'ing about the Snugride 32 carseat we have because it's so stinkin' heavy and hard for me to lift out of the car, but I guess now I'm glad we have it.  I didn't realize the smaller ones only went to 26".  We have a Britax, but I don't plan on using it until we have to.  I do like that I can carry Harper in places in her carseat if she's asleep without messing with her or if it's a quick in and out trip, I keep her in it also.  Plus, she can't sit up yet, so that would make outings a PITA without it unless she was in the sling.
  • I still carry dd in her infant seat if she's asleep, but if I were in your situation, I'd probably just go ahead and buy the convertible. Or maybe a friend has a Chicco Keyfit 30 or Snugride 32 you could borrow?

  • Sars - You are more than welcome to borrow mine. I'm not sure what the difference is but I'm pretty sure mine goes to 32.

I'll have my husband pull ours out from the attic and look tonight. Mine is in great condition, been through two kiddos but nice.

  • I would just get the Britax - it won't be long before you have to get one anyway.

And I've read that one of the only things you are not supposed to buy or use used is a car seat... a lot of them have expiration dates, so if you do end up borrowing / buying another used one, I'd make sure to check the expiration date. ?

  • I switched both my kids to the Britax by 5-6 months. The height wasn't the problem, they were just too heavy to lug around and get in and out of the car with the infant carrier. So if it were me, I wouldn't buy the bigger graco. I'd go ahead and get the Britax since you're going to get alot more use out of it.

  • id do the snugride. i would not switch my 4 month old to a regular carseat that early (for my own convenience).
  • Am I the only one that didn't think it was hard to carry them in their infant seats?  It was so handy for me!!

Of course, I have different issues than most of you do with 2 babies.  It was much easier to lug 2 infant seats at the same time than to try to hold on to 2 squirming babies, purse, diaper bag, etc!!  Smile

Nope...I like the convenience factor of being able to have her strapped in before getting to the car.  Just have to pop her in and go.  I do struggle with getting the seat out though but think it's because I have a Tahoe so I have to lift her seat higher to get it out and as she gets heavier, it kills my back.  I plan to keep her in it until she can at least sit up on her own though.
