Lately I've been concerned...

about C's head circumference vs. brain development.  I've never really thought anything about it before.  At his well visits, he's always been in the 30% for his head.  He has hit most of his developmental milestones and I think is a bit advanced on the physical ones (he's standing on his own for about 30 secs, pulling up on everything and walking with a push toy).  However, he's not close to clapping/waving and though he babbles he doesn't seem close to saying 'mama' & 'dada' and meaning it.  I've read that there is some correlation between small head circumference & slow-low brain development.  Any of you ever heard of this or am I just too worried!?

    I have the tiniest adult head --I can wear kids' sunglasses and all adult-sized glasses look ridiculous on me. I am a licensed attorney and also graduated in the top 5% of my high school, scoring in the 99% on my ACTs. I would bet your LO will be just fine. :)?

    I think you're overly worried. If you are really concerned, mention it to the Dr at the next well visit.

    DS doesn't wave, clap, say mama or dada or even stand on his own at all.

    if he's more focused on mobility (standing, crawling, walking...) then he'll be less likely to focus on talking and other motor skills until he's gotten his mobility down. babies tend to focus on one or the other. don't worry about it!

    p has a teeny little head, and he's pretty smart :)

    I'm sure I'm overly worried.  It's probably the first grade teacher in me that hates seeing kids struggle with learning/getting discouraged & I don't want that for my LO.

    If that theory is true.. then I am screwed. LO is in the 1 percentile. I am hoping that is not true

    My DH has a big freakin head, and yet thinks it's ok to give marshmallows to a 7 month old.

    SO - obviously - there's no correlation to intelligence.

    I have a huge head (according to DH...and my parents...meanies) and am currently unemployed, lol. 

    All kidding aside, I agree with PP, I don't think it's anything to give a second thought to, but if you're really concerned, talk to your pedi.  It's our job as mommies to worry, though!!

    That's completely normal. DH is studying to be a nurse and is freaking about everything with DS because he's seeing the bad side to things. As teachers you worry about development and such and you've seen the bad side of it too.

    Remind yourself that everyone's different and you're doing all you can to help prevent any struggles that may come up. You're doing great!

    I'm like the first poster. I have a small head. Hats are always too big on me. I was in the top 1% on standardized tests and went to a top university.

    Liliana has a very small head. She still fits into some of her infant hats. She has more than ten words, started clapping around nine-ish months (same with waving), can now say 'kiss' and lean in and give one, can say some two word sentences, etc.

    I'd say don't worry about it Smile It seems like he's focusing on his physical milestones right now, and that's perfectly okay. A lot of kids focus on one area at a time.
