Opinions on Drinking Pop?

I'm a Dr. Pepper addict. I've given it up (except for a few sips) since the day I ovulated, but I've heard that it's okay to have some...just don't know how much. I think I heard Diet is worse than regular? Maybe that's wrong. What do y'all think?

Re: Opinions on Drinking Pop?

  • Im not a pop drinker but I have a friend who is. Her Dr told her that one a day is ok and wont harm the baby HTH

  • Less than 200 mg of caffeine (a day) is supposed to be fine. And yes, the diet pop contains a lot of bad for you sweetener so I'd say you're better of with the regular.

  • I heard that one or two is ok. However, when I got my BFP I stopped cold turkey (let me tell you, it was a horrible 3 days of withdrawals) but now I am fine. I was a Diet Coke addict though.

  • I'm obsessed with Diet Coke.  I just bought those little mini-sized cans at the grocery store (they're like 8 oz instead of 12) so I can feed my habit without drinking a whole can.

  • I'd definitely stay away from diet.  And if you can....soda in general.  BUT that being said, I have been eating and drinking anything I can keep down.  I downed an orange soda at a family party and i NEVER drink orange soda.    I also don't care for sprite but had that at a restaurant.  sigh.

  • Diet is much worse than regular (with the sweeteners and all).

I heard that one regular soda a day is fine. Too bad they don't make caffeine free Dr. Pepper. I LOVE Dr. Pepper too!

  • I've been told to stay away from artificial sweetener, so I'd say not to a diet drink.

Caffeine is fine, in moderation. Just don't exceed 200 mg (or whatever your doctor tells you) per day. Obviously, juice or water would be healthier, but you shouldn't feel bad about indulging every once in a while.

  • I drink one regular pop a day....no diet because I know that sweetner is a big no-no.....but thats me! I know plenty of people that do and their babies are A-OK....personal call I guess....secretly if I get an excuse not to drink diet that is just fine with me :)

  • I drank one diet pop a day during my whole pregnancy. I was told there was nothing wrong with having one per day.
  • I am drinking a Diet Pepsi right now.

...and I had half-caff coffee this morning.

    I'm not concerned.

  • Yeah...it's hard because I crave it so much but since I've lost my first baby, I want to do anything and everything I can to keep this little one healthy!
  • I like a previous poster gave it cold turkey as well I was addicted to Coke but drank it way to much! So I decided to just cut it out.

  • My dr said one a day is ok and no more then 200mg. He also said the reason they tell you not to drink a lot of caff. is due to dehydration. HTH

  • Try to limit it to one a day - you should stay below 200mg of caffiene a day. I avoid diet because I'm cutting out artificial sweeteners.
  • I drink a coffee from starbucks every day and my little guy is doing just fine in there. There is less caffeine in a soda, so I would guess you're okay. If it really makes your nervous, just hold out until your second tri.

They do make it, at least here in Utah. Go figure. :)

  • So funny you say that! I am a diet soda addict but I prefer diet Dr Pepper or Diet wild cherry pepsi and I was so upset that caffiene free doesnt have all those flavors, but my DH walked in with a case of caffiene free diet Dr Pepper the other day! I was in heaven!

I'm originally from SLC. I still tell people about the soda fountains in Utah County that have all caffeine-free sodas in them... such an odd place.

  • my rule has always been 1 dr. pepper a day (it's my yummy treat - i can't give it up!).  it annoyed me so much when people freaked out when i had a pop while pg (esp. the dads-to-be).  hello?  it's a pop, not a cigarette!
  • AHHH.  It's "SODA", ladies.  "Pop" sounds so damn weird to me.  HA HA Ha.  LOL.

  • I'm a coca cola addict but haven't had it since I found out I was pregnant.  I have had a couple of sprites since it's caffeine free.  I'm still too afraid to drink caffeinated sodas.  I'm sure that will change.

Fanta orange soda is caffeine free

  • Almost everything I've read has said that up to 200mg of caffeine a day is fine- that's 2 small cups of coffee or almost 4 sodas.

I am a diet coke addict and have cut back since getting my BFP, but only because it suddenly turns my stomach!
