If you BF and supplement w/formula

Re: If you BF and supplement w/formula

  • I use to because DS wasn't gaining well. I would nurse him, feed him whatever I pumped previously, and then give him formula. I did that until DS refused to nurse all together.

  • B/c I can't keep up with demand by pumping at work. It's been a struggle all along and the stress is way less now that we started using some formula. I breastfeed at home, pump at work, and make one bottle with formula. We've been supplementing for about a month.

  • I'm pregnant again....

    1. My OB and pedi told me to cut my nursings.

    2. My supply has dropped and I'm exhausted!

  • I did with my DD because she was initially having a hard time maintaining her glucose levels and was Small for gestational age.  Later, around 8 months, she was failure to thrive.  She was on formula and BM until 1 year, then on 24 calorie formula until 2 years.

I would supplement my DS when I want to go out, but he won't take a bottle or sip cup.

  • I don't supplement with formula, but I've been having supply issues, and we are supplementing with donated breastmilk and some cows milk (she's 11.5 months old).
  • I am back at work now and I just can't pump enough.  I am a teacher and I cannot pump when I want to, I have to pump when my schedule allows- which I think is the problem.  I get about 6 ounces a day and he eats 5oz at a time.  I pump after feedings at home, but he usually gets 4 bottles of formula a week.

  • I had a period at 4 months PP and my supply took a big hit, I wasn't making enough milk for DS anymore.  I initially tried to increase my supply with extra calories, extra water, Mother's Milk Tea and some supplements but quickly decided that wasn't for me.  So I used up my freezer stash (I am a SAHM and had about 300 oz) and began supplementing with formula about 2 weeks ago.  He now gets about 60 % breastmilk and 40 % formula and we are all much happier now.  I don't stress about increasing my supply, DS always has a full belly, DH can help with more feedings, he continues to get the antibodies from my BM, and the iron and vitamin D from the formula.  It's a win, win situation.

  • DH likes to give him his bedtime bottle and I hate pumping with a passion.

  • Because every once in a while I like to go out with DH to dinner without nursing or bringing (and heating) frozen BM. You just put some water in a bottle, open the little packet, pour it in, shake it up, and he is munching away. I also was never sure if he was going to want to eat while we were out. If there was a lot going on, he would drink only a tiny amount and the rest would go to waste. He used to view it as a treat.

We don't do it anymore. Now he just snacks on what we are eating for dinner.

  • B/c at around 5months I realized I hated pumping 2 hours a day to get enough milk for one bottle. SO, when I am not around which is maybe 10% of the time DD gets formula. OH THE HORROR!!!

  • Because I didn't have time to pump 3x per day at work, and I hate pumping anyway.  Life is so much less stressful now.

  • I work part time on the weekends and my son gets formula when I am there. I hate pumping with a passion as well. The first couple weeks of his life he had latching difficulties and I had to pump for every feeding until he got the hang of things. That was a stressful time and I just can't go back to pumping after doing so much.
