Using ribbon as a border???

We painted the nursery this weekend...it's a light pink with a wide ivory stripe around the perimeter, and then inside the ivory stripe is a 6 inch cocoa colored stripe.  I love it, except there isn't enough contrast between the pink and the ivory.  I went to JoAnn's today and bought some chocolate brown ribbon with light pink polka dots and am planning on putting that up at the top and bottom of the stripe to create a contrast between the pink and ivory.  I'm just not sure how to do it.

My mom suggested glue, or double sided tape...but we live in Georgia so I'm concerned that with the heat changes the glue will loosen and constantly need to be "retouched" to make it look right.  I'm also concerned that as baby gets older, she'll be able to "pick" at it through her crib and pull it off.  My thought was to use tiny nails and stagger them every 4-6 inches, alternating doing the top and bottom of the ribbon.

Anyone have experience with this or have any other ideas/products they would recommend using for this?  TIA!

  • Sounds like a cute idea, but I'd be concerned about the ribbon being a dust magnet or getting dirty.

  • Can you maybe treat the ribbon with something? Anyway, wall paper border paste will probably hold and if you get the kind that dries clear, you may be able to "decopage" over the ribbon to make it not so dust-attracting.

  • try hot glue. Works wonders and you can use as little or as much as you need. One of my bff's is an interior designer and she used ribbon going vertically on her office walls and it looked awesome!

I would love to see photos when you are done.

  • You could use nail head/decorative tacks every so often and make a pattern out of it.  Like one every 10 dots or so.

  • I'd be careful with the nails or tacks.  If LO gets her fingers under the ribbon where there isn't a nail she could pull it away from the wall and the nails/tacks could go with it.  Then you'd have a BIG problem!  I like what the PP poster said about decoupage (sp?).
