So - I hear that oatmeal is is a good and natural way to boost supply. Kellymom says just one bowl a day is fine.
What I am wondering is how long does it take for you to see a difference. If I start having a bowl of oatmeal every morning in my last month will that help for my supply to come in faster? Of course while stiff BF and pumping to make it come in as well. Also - when should I start pumping. Should I start pumping right away after each feeding for LO (directly from the breast) to make my supply come in faster or should I wait a few weeks.
I am wondering if I should take my pump with me to the hospital. TIA - I know you guys might be getting sick of me - but I have a lot of questions and I don't really know of anyone who was successful at breastfeeding that I am comfortable asking. THANKS!
Re: Oatmeal
No oatmeal will not make it come in faster. How long it takes doesn't matter unless it takes more than 5 days. Your colostrum is rich with fats, nutrition and antibodies. Baby *needs* that from you. You don't need to pump right away, it will do more harm than good. It will promote clogged ducts, oversupply, overactive letdown and mastitis. Don't worry about pumping right now. You can take your pump, but 99% of the time they have one there.
Check out my link "Pumping FAQ" that might help give you some info.
I tried checking out your link yesterday as well. It says article not published for some reason. I can not access it.
Thanks so much. Like I said - I don't really know of anyone who successfully BF. My mom could not, neither could my sister or bestfriend.
Your article is very informative - you mention the Ameda purely yours - is that pump the same as the lansiloh double pump?
I've heard more and better recommendations about the Lansinoh than the Ameda. I personally have a Medela PISA (backpack) and love it. If you go to the baby boards and ask, you'd probably get some great recommendations.
