Pregnant after 35

selfish sick people at work

I think it's very selfish of people to come to work when they are sick.  I'm not impressed when I hear someone coughing (with junk  in the sound of the cough) at their desk...especially in rooms where there are little more than cubicle dividers separating everyone and no ventilation at that.

Right now I reminded the person he should go home, but he flipped me off.  So I'm sitting here with a stack of paper towels taped to my face covering my nose and mouth.

When someone asks me why do I have this over my face, I'll say ask that co-worker who is coughing and obviously sick, but at work.

Re: selfish sick people at work

  • Those same selfish people send their sick kids to school also.

A few weeks ago DS had a confirmed case of Influenza A (likely the H1N1 since he had already received his seasonal flu vaccine). The ER doctor said all children with confirmed cases of the flu need to stay home 7 days. DS's pre-school, on the other hand, said "all cases of the flu have been relatively mild and kids are returning in 2-3 days."

    Grrrrr Angry

My son was home for 14 days because the flu was followed by a nasty sinus infection since his poor immune system took such a hit.

Hand sanitizer is your best friend Wink Spray some lysol in their direction. Maybe they'll get the hint.

  • In a perfect world we would all be able to stay home every time we were sick, but as a person who only gets 5 paid sick days a year- it is incredibly difficult to take off every time you are sick and every time your kid is sick.

I close my office door, wash my hands frequently and avoid others when I can but it is just the world we live in. I wish it was different, I hate the thought that I might be sharing an elevator with someone with H1N1 on any given day.

  • I hear you on that one.  At my company the vast majority of people have no problem with not getting enough sick time, but there is some kind of martyr status attached with being at work "even though I'm sick".  I also hate the "I will still feel like crap if I'm at home, so I might as well be here and productive" - Um, ok - that is fine for YOU, but what about the rest of us?

  • We were told today that if we are SICK do not come in because we all don't want to catch it!

Apparently some people think they are showing how dedicated they are by coming to work sick as dogs.  It's not dedication.  It's stupidity. :)

  • I can not stand that!  You'r right- it's the martyer mentatlity...  thinking thier bosses will think they are more dedicated if they "push through".  Funny to think how thier bosses will think of them if they get them sick!

I like the spraying of Lysol idea.  Carry it with you and spray it into his cubicle everytime you walk by... lol.

  • I hear ya! I am going to start wearing a mask to work! I will slap him for flipping you off! That just ticks me off. I am sorry you have to deal with this.

  • Remember, symptoms can stick around for days after you are no longer contagious...cough, runny nose, sneezing from even just a common headcold. I only get 10 days a year and my headcold lasted that long a couple weeks ago. No, I didn't take any days off ~ it was just a cold.
  • I am so with you on this!

Today we had an external consultant come and give our whole office training. She got a bit confused at one stage and said after a few minutes said, "sorry, I am so sick today I can't really think straight"  I was sitting next to her and promptly moved my chair away.  She sniffed and spluttered through the rest of the training.

Surely if you are that sick rescheduling would be the best thing.  Here we are all trapped in a small training room with this person.

After the training she came into my office and wanted to go through my files with her. I asked her to please leave and come back when she was better as I am pregnant and don't want to get sick! She left my office but is still on this floor, I can still hear her coughing!!!
