whats the big deal about the free birth control?

?

people give/sell their unused IVF/IUI meds all.the.time. and no one flips their sh*t about that so who cares if it's birth control.

  • hmmm....probably bc it's illegal?
  • Drugs are prescribed to one person, they aren't pez. It's illegal to provide them to others.
  • I'll only take free BC if it's from a doctor or a friend. Not some random chick on the webz. And 2.5 packs? What the eff good is a a half pack doing anyone?

  • I don't see the big deal.  My Crohn's meds aren't covered by insurance and cost roughly $500 per month.  If someone wanted to give me free meds here in unopened packages I would be eternally grateful!

ETA - I skipped over the sell part of the OP.  I think selling them is wrong, but I see nothing wrong with giving them away.  The alternative is throwing them out and that is so wasteful when someone really needs them.

so what you'er saying is that you would not want to buy my left over percocet from my c/s at $10 a pill, because come one "everyone does it"

  • ok yes i get that it's illegal but so is jaywalking and talking on your cellphone while driving....

and i'm not talking about controlled narcotics quite obviously. *eyeroll*

and yes in the infertility community people give their un-used meds to those in need very frequently.

i'm not saying it's right because "everyone is doing it" i'm just saying there's bigger fish to fry than starting a riot about free birthcontrol. but i agree the 1/2 pack is weird.

People do it all the time. When you start a round of IVF (or IUI, too, I assume) they send you a boat load of drugs. Enough to conceive a whole Duggar's worht of children. With any luck, you will only need them for one round. And they expire after a year. So what do you do with them? Send them to a needy sister. They are expensive!!

I've also given away extra prescription formula (unopened).

I fgure there's a big difference between sharing drugs like that (which you cannot just use recreationally anyway) and tossing a stranger some oxy. BIG difference. It's like you're going to end up jonsing for your BCP fix...

  • thank you! someone with some common sense.

So the fact that it is illegal means nothing? I am shocked at you!

I don't understand why it's illegal.  I have a prescription from my doc for the meds.  Someone is willing to give me their unopened pack for free or I could buy it for $500.  Sounds like a no-brainer to me.

Like a PP said, a lot of things are illegal (talking on cell and driving for example) but people still do it.

And before someone goes on the "how do you an internet stranger didn't tamper with it?"  I would know whether or not it was opened.  And I have sent formula cans to people before, in fact, to people who have posted in this very thread.  I assume they used the cans (coming from an internet stranger) without a problem.

Listen, $500 is a lot of money and could be put to good use for my family.  I don't care if it's illegal - throwing the pills away because you don't need them would be a bigger crime IMO.

Choosing to ignore the fact that something is illegal is not common nor does it make sense...key word being illegal.

  • adverse reactions mean anything to you?

    And then you die.

Guess who can be held liable for your death?

::whispers:: the person who gave you the drugs, narcotic or not.

    Good luck!

  • well you wouldn't be having an adverse reaction to a medication YOU WERE ALREADY ON.......gezus you'd think common sense was an endangered animal around these parts

This is the dumbest comment I have ever seen here. Clearly you know nothing about physiology and how reactions work. You can react to something the second time you are on or eat something, or the 1000th time. Stop perpetuating stupidity.

    Dr. Banana,

Will you be checking the current prescriptions of potential "patients" against the form of free birth control you will be dispencing? How will you KNOW the person has been on it ALREADY? Seems your common sense left a loooong time ago.
Explain to me this 1/2 pack. Clearly already open.

Does Tylenol Tainting of 1982 ring any bells?

I took penicillin my whole life but I had an adverse reaction in college that landed me in the hospital.  So I disagree with that statement.
