How to keep baby warm at night

We're in Texas, and until this past few days it hasn't really been that cold (or even cool for that matter). DD's feet were freezing this morning (she sleeps in footed pjs). How do you keep your LO warm at night? This wasn't a problem when she was a newborn because we swaddled.

Re: How to keep baby warm at night

  • It's cold here (WI) and we do either a heavier footed sleeper or a lighter one with a onesie underneath. I also use a medium-weight blanket from his waist down.

  • I layer DD. We put a onesie and socks under her sleepers.
  • We do an undershirt, footed pj's, footed fleece sleeper and then a fleece sleep sack over that.

  • We actually put socks over his sleeper so they don't fall off when he scoots around. It works really well.

  • Cant you just put sock on under the footies? That's what we do in MN (aka: frozen tundra).

Does the blanket stay on? DS rolls around sooooo much at night there's no way a blanket would stay put

  • Thanks . . . I don't know why I didn't really think about layering. :)

I'm wondering this too, b/c DD is all over the place and would never keep a blanket on.

Indifferent What do you keep your heat at?? I'm in MN. It's freezing here. FOUR layers (two of them fleece?) is WAY overkill. Isnt your baby dripping in sweat? Our heat is at 68 at night and the kids are perfectly comfortable in two layers if one of them is fleece (an undershirt or onesie and fleece sleeper/jammies).

  • honestly- babies get used to whatever they are put in- not to say a short sleeve t-shirt though. My pedi always says not to worry- especially when I used to tell him her hands were cold in the morning.

Our house is about 68 degrees at night. She sleeps in a long sleeve undershirt and fleece pjs. I haven't had a need to put on another layer yet - might get a sleeper but not in a rush till we are in really really cold weather.

  • Kate sleeps with a blanket, and has for a few mos now.  Did your dd seem to be bothered by the cold feet?  If not, she's probably ok.  We have cold feet around here for almost half of the year.  Blah, midwest winters.  Another option is to put socks on under her footed sleeper.

FWIW- I don't know the OPs home- but our heating system SUCKS. Yes, we are in CA so its not THAT big of a deal but the heat is either on or off and DS's room gets warm really quick so we can't keep it on all night or he would get hot... so when it gets down into the 30s at night he will need extra layers.

He pretty much stays in the same spot until he wakes up, where he then will sit up or stand up. He's a tummy sleeper, so he stays put.

She's in PA and if it gets into the 30s (which it will, for weeks at a time) then their heat will be on. Unless they dont have heat Tongue Tied

  • I just have her in cotton footie PJs,  I have some fleece ones for when its colder, but for now - in the 40's at night, she's fine.  Honestly, I'd rather she be a little cold than overheated.
