  • Maybe she didn't mind?

I honestly wouldn't have minded (this last time) if DH would have stayed at home. DD was in the NICU and I felt fine....

    Too each their own.

  • DH was told very clearly that he would be staying at the hospital.  When we had our birthing classes our teacher suggested that the partners may want to go home to do laundry, clean the house, or relax.  Uh, I don't think so.

  • If I had ended up with a vaginal delivery I probably would have sent DH home too. Either way I would have spent the night in L&D and even though to rooms are huge, they arent husband friendly.

DH spend each night in the NICU with baby and I didnt miss him at all...lol

This.  DH stayed the first couple of nights and then on the third night he stayed at home.  DS was in the NICU and I was feeling ok so I didn't need help with anything.  I knew DH wasn't getting sleep at the hospital so I suggested he could stay at home with the dogs that night.  He came back first thing in the morning though.

  • Wow.

I guess it depends if the baby was in the nursery or not.

We got to the hospital Tuesday morning and left Thursday afternoon, FI was there the entire time.  The first night, I needed him. I had Jacob at 7pm, I was way to sore to get up to the bassinet, change diapers, pick him up, nurse him etc. I could barely get to the bathroom alone! I needed FI.

The second night, I probably could of spent at least 8 hours alone, it wouldn't of made a difference.  His "bed" was so uncomfortable, we ended up sharing the hospital bed anyways.

  • I would have as well. But maybe if our situation had been different I wouldn't have minded, I don't know.
  • I don't know what things are like at your hospital, but all DH had to sleep on was a hard plastic recliner.  DH spent the first night with us, but I felt bad for him and told him to go home to sleep after that.  If they had an actual bed for him, things might have been different.
  • at our hospital, if we had a roommate in our postparteum room, dh would have to go home after visiting hours! so maybe thats what happened- not sure what their hospital rules are but thats what ours does! luckily, i got my own room! i would have been in tears if he had to leave!
  • I would not have handled that very well. I needed DH waaaay too much to help care for me (I had a 4th degree tear)
  • My DH spent all nights at home and came to the hospital during the day. Why not? And perhaps there was no place for him to sleep at the hospital. Not all hosptial's provide beds for SOs.

  • Umm..maybe I'm weird..but I told DH to go home to sleep.  He was up all the night before Carter was born (he was delivered at 5:43am),....DH stayed til pretty late, around 10pm..but i told him to go...DS was in the nicu and I couldn't even leave my bed...he was back by 7:30am...if he'd have stayed, i'd have worried too much about his comfort!
  • I delivered at 11am and was home by 6pm the same day - any chance she went home too?

    Otherwise, I would be pissed.
