Or have you found that your regular bras work just fine? I've heard nursing bras are pretty comfy, but wasn't sure how much, if any, money I should throw towards them when I don't know the size I will need, or if they are really neccesary.
Yes, you will need them if you plan to nurse. Buy 2 nursing tank tops (I like the ones at Motherhood Maternity) now and bring them to the hospital with you. You will love having them the first few days.
DON'T buy a nursing bra until after you have the baby. About 7 days after birth, go to Nordstrom and get properly measured. I highly reccomend just buying a bra there as they are AMAZING quality and the fit can't be beat. I am a 34H and love the Anita brand, so comfy and great quality, worth every penny. Mine was around $70. If that's not in your budget, I would still rec'd getting measured there, and then buy from a different store. The girls on the Breastfeeding board can give you some rec's for nexpensive bras if you ask!
I guess it depends on your boobs though... if you have small breasts you might be able to use a regular bra, I don't know how that would work? The way my nursing bras work, is there's a little hook at the top of the cup and you unhook that, nurse, and then hook it back up afterwards, soooo easy and convenient.
I bought one "nursing shirt" and wore it once. I was never the type to "nurse in public" so I just wore regular clothes. So, I would say it just depends on your personality, if you are planning to nurse a lot when you're out, you might want a nursing cover or some special shirts. I only BF at home or in private, so I would just pull my whole shirt up.
Yes, you want nursing bras and/or tanks. Wearing underwire bras can cause major issues. Also, it's much easier to feed babies with a bra designed for nursing. I think I went up to a DD, and found the Bravado bras and Glamour Mom tanks worked very well. Agreed, the nursing shirts were worthless.
Bras are a must! I got mine at Just Like a Women off 43. They are AMAZING there. My bras were very comfortable and they were only like $44. The woman that owns it is a breast cancer survivor so they specialize in hard to fit be it from surgery, too small, too large or nursing. They are so great there. I buy all my normal bras from them now too. They told me to come in about 2 weeks to 1 and they'd fit me but to only buy 1 bra then to come back about 2 weeks after birth to get another fitting done.

I've headr this too...FWIW, I have to wear underwire, I'm a 34H and need the support, and I never had any problems. My Anita nursing bras and my Fantasie underwire bra all have underwire and were still really comfortable. I think the "no underwire" rule only applies if you are wearing the wrong sized bra?
I think they are a must-have, esp. for those first couple weeks. I sometimes get by with pulling down my bras, but that is only because I am comfortable BFing now, and I still prefer nursing bras and tanks.
Target ones are okay and I think $17 a piece
BTW- the day my milk came in, my breasts looked like bowling balls and I almost went out and bought a bra accordingly. Give it a couple days after the milk comes in for your supply to be established. They went down considerably once the engorgement went down and DD was on somewhat of a routine.
I have worn a 38C, and went up to a 38D once my boobs had a growth spurt in the beginning. Because I am busty I think I would want the underwires, but also looked at the sleep bras too. Good point to wait a bit for a feeding routine to be established before being fitted. How many cup sizes would you say you went up once you were full with milk?

That's the thing...you can't tell, everyone is different. I was a 34D pre-pregnancy, a 34DDD in 2nd tri, and a 34H 8 days after birth. I wear a normal nursing bra during the day, and i really liked the "sports bras" from MM to sleep in, they gave a little more support than the "sleep bra".

Tops are not needed at all.
