Iced Tea Intake?

Well this is my 1st and suprisingly I'm not paranoid about anything.  I still eat sushi (only from reputable restaurants) and won't touch a piece of steak thats well done (luckily I'm hating most meat right now).  What I'm really curious about though is caffeine.  I've never been a coffee drinker but I do love iced tea and still drink quite a bit of it.

So is this a bad thing and did anyone else drink alot of iced tea while pregnant?

Maybe I should just call the doc...

Re: Iced Tea Intake?

  • "The March of Dimes advises women to limit their caffeine intake to less than 200 mg per day"

  • You can have 200 mg. of caffeine a day. Iced tea has like 50. I get a venti at starbucks allll the time.
  • I posted a similar Q and nesties told me to keep it under 300 mg of caffeine per day.  (I'd double check that # with your OB in case I have it wrong).

But I limit myself to one caffeinated coffee per day (and usually I go with decaf)  and my midwife said that's just fine. When I asked her about caffeine she said the warnings are for people who chug mug after mug of coffee or tea topping 8 per day.

Her theory she repeats over and over is "Anything in moderation, nothing in excess."

    H&H pregnancy to you!!

  • My doctor told me to limit caffeine to two 8 oz cups per day (easier to figure out that 250 mg or whatever)

I HAVE been having a lot of iced tea, although not every day, especially because it helps with my headaches

  • Plain wate,r for some reason upsets my stomach so I have been drinking a ton of iced tea in addition to the water. I make it at home so I can make decaf. It doesn't taste any different to me.
  • Tea has far less caffeine than coffee.  I don't ingest regularly, but I think pp was right about just doing things in moderation.

  • I recently read in Fit Pregnancy that black tea can interfere with folic acid intake (pretty much negating the prenatal vitamin benefits). I cannot remember why/how. If you are wondering about it, I would check with your doctor.

  • I love tea too so I've been making the caffeine free stuff that way I save the caffeine for when I'm away from home and don't have a choice.

  • I love sweet tea!! I actually use decaf tea bags to make it. Of course I use... wait for it... .equal!! Yep, I'm a horrible mom:)
  • LOL....honest to goodness I never though about just buying decaf tea bags...this baby is going to my brain  Stick out tongue
  • LOL...bad mommy...well I usually use Splenda but if I really layer my tea down with a ton of lemon I can drink it straight so that's usually what I do.
