Pregnant after 35

flu shot?

So I'm 8 weeks preg. & just found a pharmacy offering the thimerosal-free (mercury preservative-free) flu shot tomorrow afternoon (just the seasonal shot, not the H1N1). ?

Has anyone else had a flu shot in the first trimester? ?Or when did you have yours? ? I'm afraid if I wait much longer I won't be able to find the preservative-free one anywhere, and my R/E said it would be okay to get it, though she recommended the preservative-free one. ?

Re: flu shot?

  • I got my at week 5 or so.. I think I was supposed to wait until week 12 according to my doc, but everything is going just fine! I do plan on waiting until I hit 12 weeks before I get the H1N1 shot... although that shouldn't be too tough to wait on considering its so hard to find anyways!

  • If I get a flu shot, I am waiting until my 2nd trimester. My midwife won't see me until I am 9 weeks anyway, so she hasn't told me that I should get it earlier. Personally, I do not believe in flu shots for myself and have never gotten one.

  • My OB gave me one at week 10.
  • Yes, I had the seasonal flu shot two weeks ago and will have the H1N1 as soon as it becomes available.  Being pregnant gives you a much higher risk of serious complications from the flu.  My OB said that the flu vaccine is safe during 1st trimester.
  • I am getting mine tomorrow - I'm barely in the 2nd tri.  I would have gotten it sooner except for availability.  My obs are more concerned about me getting it than when I get it; they feel it's safe in the first tri.
  • thanks for the feedback! ?
  • I got the "regular" flu shot but not the swine flu a few days ago.  I am still undecided about the swine flu shot.
