Opinions needed - paint color for M's room

Okay, I'm seriously driving myself crazy over paint colors for M's room. The paint colors were due to the painters last Thursday and I sent them for the entire house, then emailed on Friday saying to hold off on the colors for the kids room and that I'd figure it out over the weekend and get them the colors today. But I just cannot decide, DH is no help, and at this point, I am totoally over-thinking this and need someone who can take a step back and help me so I'm begging for opinions.

M's current bedding and accesiories (i.e. wall hanginng, lamp) are bright oranges, yellows and greens). His nursery was a pale yellow and looked really nice with the current stuff, but he doesn't love the color yellow. I imagine he'll have his current crib bedding for a while longer since I'd like to keep him in a crib as long as possible and then will convert the crib to a toddler bed and use the same bedding so I want the color of the room to coordinate.

He loves pink and when asked what color he wants his room, he says pink. DH's only opinion is that the room CANNOT be pink. M also likes blues and greens, but I'm having trouble finding a green that complements the green of the current accesories and I think blue might be a little too much going on in the room. Our realtor had an interior designer come out and suggest colors for us and she recommended two walls blue and two walls green, but the colors she picked are too dark for my taste and I just can't really picture all that color - we keep things a little more neutral, but this is a toddlers room....

So, if you read all that, what color would you paint?

  • Do you have a picture of his bedding?

  • This is from a website, not M's room - we don't use the bedskirt anymore and his crib is espresso, not white.

Oh soooo cute!  If you are going to have a lot of orange in his bedding, and since you like neutral colors more, what about a brown?  You could do a latte color or some shade of brown to complement the orange, etc (kinda like what they have on the floor in the picture). It would also look good with the dark furniture.  You could then do pops of color in the room (adding in red, blue or green accents) in pillows, picture frames, etc.

Otherwise, I'd do a shade of green (sagey color).

I like the sagey green color, but his lamp and wall hangings are bright green and olive green and don't really go well with the sage green. The latte color would work as well - most of the house will be that color so we could just carry that into his room.

  • do 3 walls in a pale sky blue and then 1 wall in a jungle green

  • Maybe I am boring but...

I would do a super light gray....the orange really would play off that an punch it up a few notches which is why I would go with more of a base color than a vibrant one.

Personally, I'm over having different colored walls in the same room unless you're using the color change at a logical place to denote a usage-change. (so if your living/dining/kitchen are all open together, where the natural breaks in each "room" happen then a color change can happen...)

so I nix what the designer said.

I'm also going to throw a new color in - dove grey. Go a shade or two lighter than the word "tigers" (or exactly that shade - color on computer is not always true to life) and that will work as a good neutral foundation that can grow with M and which works with all of the other colors that exist in the room.

    Good luck!

  • I also really like Emmie's suggestion of matching the tigers lettering, it would be the perfect complement.  I think blue or green sounds like too much going on IMO.

Where did you get that bedding BTW, it's adorable.

  • Such cute bedding! I agree with the grey! It would play off the grey animals. Make sure it's a warm grey though, and not a bland grey like you'd find in a hospital.
  • Thanks for the responses - I hadn't even thought of doing grey!
