Pregnancy hip pain at night

When I lay on my sides at night my hips hurt so bad. I can't lay on my back because I can't breathe, and ovsiously I can't lay on my tummy anymore. Does anyone have any tips on getting a good night sleep?

  • Do you have a body pillow? My snoogle was my saving grace.

  • I remember I used to prop a pillow under one side of my body so I wasn't completely on my side. Maybe that will work for you?
  • I might have to try pillows. DH has a bad back so he is usually the one with all the pillows and it doesn't leave much room. But I am going to have to do something. Is there any excercises to help that anyone knows of?

  • i used a body pillow and other pillows under my feet, it helped sometimes but it still ached usually. sometimes wedging two pillows on each side of me so that my back and front took some of the pressure off helped. needless to say, i had a lot of pillows goin on in bed. hopefully you can find a way to get rid of it or lessen it :( sorry

  • What has helped me the most (busted hip over here!) has been getting a thin pillow and wedging it under my belly (they sell wedges for the belly, but they are too firm for my liking) and then I lean forward into the pillow with another pillow stuck between my legs.  This causes me to lay on the front most portion of my hip.

Then when I wake in the night...I stuff the pillow behind my back and lean back into that one and sleep at a more angled position on the back portion of my hip (the glut area).

I cannot sleep on my left because my left hip is so blown to shreds from an injury...but by changing up the position of front to back of my hip on the right it REALLY helps to aleviate the extreme pain I am feel from sleeping on my side and jarring my hips out of socket again.

Though, you might ask your doctor to send you to a PT for at least one session...I have had to go see my PT periodically so she could force my hip back into the right spot of my body (my hip bones tend to pull away from the socket), you COULD be having this issue...honestly it doesnt feel great having them shove it back into place, but as soon as they do I feel much better and can walk, sit, stand, and lay easier.
