Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

101 percentile for height!

OK my 12 month old is tall as heck! They said he's off the charts for his height..so of coarse we have problems w/clothes fitting him, for lenght he's 18 mos. but they are so huge on him in width! He's 22 lbs and most of the 18mos start at 27 lbs!

Anyone else have giants for babies :) ?

Re: 101 percentile for height!

  • DD has my body type for sure - long and lean.  She's about 75-80% for weight, but 95th for heigh.  Always been long.  And I guess I know why - DH isn't exceptionally tall, but I am 5'10" and the women on both sides of my family are very tall.

We're tall, blonde, loud (but pretty smart and fabulous) - she's is good company!

  • It is not possible to be in the 101st percentile.

But yes, I have big boys, too. My 12-mo was/is wearing 2T.

  • Dd is 80% (about 30 1/2 in) which is over half my height LOL. I'm 4 foot 11. Giant to me! 24th% for weight, she needs a belt!
  • At her 18th month appt., DD was off the charts for height...but only 5th %tile for weight.  Needless to say, pants are not her friends!  I take most of her pants in, because even the adjustable waist pants are too big.  We cloth diaper, so that helps a bit (but she's starting to want to use the potty, and I know we'll be toast if she wears undies).

Oh...and overalls are our best friends( as are little dresses, but obviously that's not an option for you)...and I hate footed PJs =)

Are you and/or your DH tall?

  • Well even the pedi wrote on his chart 101 percentile...I have it sitting in front of me. Dont know..
  • Yes, at 12 months DS was 33in and now at 19 mo he's about 38in. He's been off the charts every time he's been measured. It's getting harder and harder to find clothes for him as he keeps thinning out and stretching out.

  • I think we are pretty average...But my brother is 6 ft..so maybe he gets it from my side of the family. He was a preemie and now he's huge! crazy how things work out

That probably just means your son is an "outlier" of the norm, which would be off the chart. Statistically, there is no 101 percentile. My son is large for weight, but not height, so he has to have larger clothes, but they are often too long.

  • DS isn't a giant, but has been about 85% for height which is pretty good considering neither I nor DH are tall (I'm 5'2" and DH is 5'9")

  • Since birth, Ben has consistently been in the 90-95th percentile for his height.  He was in the 97th percentile at his 18 month appt.
  • Yup, DS has been over 90th percentile for height for over a year but his weight hovers in the 70s.  His pants and shirts are silly -- fit fine in the waist and body but the arms and legs are too short.  He's rocking the capri and 3/4 legnth sleeve look often these days.  His next set of clothes are 2T but are quite baggy on him.
  • DD is in the 95%tile (give or take a few percentages at each appt.) But around the 50%tile for weight.

Pants are the hardest to find. We CD, which helps fill out the butt, but we still have to use the pants with adjustable waist bands and pull them super tight to keep her pants on. Some of the 12 month shirts are way too short on her, but she swims in the 18 mo ones. It's so frustrating!

  • My DD was 32 2/8 inches at her 12 month appnt. She was between 95 - 100%. She has consistently been 95% to over 100%. She was 23" at birth. Her weight is/was at 12 month was 24.1 lb. or 85% - but she is not really chubby. For winter clothes I am buying all 2T. 18 - 24 months at ON, Gap, Carters, Gymbo, are all too short. And - We dont wear footed pj's or onesies.
