Vent about people come to work sick!

I am so irritated that people come into work sick on a daily basis.  Even if I wasn't pregnant, I wouldn't want them coughing & sneezing all over me spreading their germs.  But since I am pregnant (which is still on the down low at work) I am seriously paranoid that I am going to get the flu or swine flu or something.  I have already been sick twice from these morons during my pregnancy.  Terrible all-day morning sickness is making life hard enough people!  Ugh.  Okay, vent over :)

  • I agree. What's even worse is when said co-workers don't even have the common sense to cover their mouths or cough into their arm or a kleenex choosing to cough or sneeze into the air instead, so the entire office gets sick.
  • not everyone can afford to stay home when they are sick.

Or if you have a job like mine, it's not encouraged that you miss work for any reason at al, much less for something as silly as not feeling well./

  • First off, people can sneeze and cough and not be contagious anymore.  But I agree, people should not come in, the first couple of days that they are sick.  I am the boss here at my work, I don't mind the commom cold but if you are t/u, I send them home and spray lysol all over the place.
  • Yeah.

I know people don't want to miss work. It's hard to make up things after you've been gone a day or two. But I've been sick twice in three weeks, with two different versions of the flu. Right after I got over the first one, every single person in my department (I am not exaggerating) got sick. And of course, they stayed at work all day coughing, sneezing and blowing their noses.

  • For the employees I manage I've been telling them if they are sick they can work from home as opposed to coming in if they feel up to working.  That has helped but for some reason other people insist on coming to the office visibly/audibly sick anyway.  I don't know what more I can do to be flexible.

  • I realize that not everyone can stay home from work for a common cold, I wouldn't stay home either if I just had a cold. My issue is more with people who cough or sneeze as you walk by their desk and don't bother to cover their mouths. It's just bad manners.
  • I completely agree.  It sucks, cause I know everyone hates to miss work, especially if it is just for a cold.   But one person came in on Tuesday last week sick and by Thursday, 5 people around me were sick.
