I'm contemplating getting rid of my cell phone. Last time I looked into a land line it was kind of expensive. Anyone have an idea of what it would cost for a basic local plan?
When we had a land line, had a pretty bare bones package and it was $40 a month. I've seen them as low as $20 or so, but you'll want to look into what is local vs. local toll vs. long distance.
I have AT&T. It's $8.91 per month for a limited calling plan. I get unlimited incoming calls and 30 outgoing calls per month. It's 8 or 9 cents per call past 30. I don't know how much long distance calls are though since I use my cell for those. I don't have any features. I mostly have it for DSL. My DSL is an extra $20 (although I had a deal where I got 3 months free.)
I used to sell AT&T in Columbus. I think a basic unlimited local plan was around $18, but this was a few years ago. It was $26 for unlimited local plus call waiting.
If you are going to have the internet I would HIGHLY recommend SKYPE. We pay $30 a year for the number and like $3 dollars or less a month for the service. The only downside is that you can't call 911.
If you keep a cell phone charged and ready you can use it for 911 whether you have a plan or not.
