Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Time it takes you to get LO to nap..?

Just curious what you all do to get your LO to fall asleep for a nap, and how long it takes. DD was a pretty easy baby to get down for a nap, but DS fights it tooth and nail! (though he's a good night time sleeper at least!) Currently, to get him to sleep, I'll nurse him in the rocker, then have to get up and pace/bounce around the room to get him really out.. but he still usually wakes up shortly after I lay him down, and I'll have to rock his bassinet and "shhhh" over him. Sometimes I have to come back in the room and rock/shhh the bassinet again. All in all, it takes between 30 minutes (very good!) and 45 minutes to get him to fall asleep. And I'm sure he's ready for naptime before I start all of this.

How long does it take to get your LO to sleep for naptime? Anyone have any tricks they've learned? :) TIA!

  • I could have written this post - this is my DS exactly!  I have no advice, just letting you know I can relate!

  • I just let DD nap when she wants.  I've never tried to get her to nap.
  • I'm in your shoes.  By the time DD gets done eating, I spend another 20-30 minutes getting her completely to sleep.  If she's not totally out, she wakes up the moment I put her down and have to start all over again, usually another 20 minutes of rocking.  She also wakes up about every 2 hours, so I'm lucky a lot of the time to get an hour of sleep between.
  • We started swaddling A during naps too.  It helped quite a bit.

  • hmm, I just put him down when he falls asleep.

Now, at night after a feeding, sometimes he takes an hour to wind back down & go to sleep.  I usually rock him or take him into another room to read or watch tv until he falls asleep.  No point in stressing myself out.
